I am contemplating having a gunsmith switch out my .223 barrel for a new .300 Blackout. What can I expect? I would like to use it for Deer/Pigs. Is it worth it?

Ammo is more expensive, a little more power, around 30% more. 223 is more accurate though. When I first had a 300 blk, I couldn't get it to group better than about 1" at 100 yards with handloads.
Having said that, I am in the process of building a 300 blk but it will be an SBR matched with a suppressor.

My suggestion is to build a 2nd upper in 300BLK. You have the ability to switch back and forth.
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

IMO you're better off buying a 6.8 SPCII upper and a few mags for it.
Upon us all, upon us all, a little rain must fall

Thanks for the feedback! Has anyone had experiences using the .300 Blackout with Pigs and Deer?

Unless you want to suppress it I'd go for 6.8 over .300 Blackout. 40+% more energy than 5.56 at 100-300 yards and better ballistic coefficient than .30.

I have had very good luck using 300 Blackout on pigs using the Barnes 110 gr. load. I have taken over thirty using that load and has done a much better job of anchorng pigs than the .556 ever did.

My little cheapo 12" 300blk upper is more accurate than any AR upper I've had. And 110gr Barnes Vor-TX will smoke a pig, no prob.
Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

Has anyone had experiences using the .300 Blackout with Pigs and Deer? Yes, lots. I shoot the 125 grain Nosler BT and 125 Hornady SST with the best results. You will get perfect mushroom shaped expansion, and deep penetration. But I have taken deer and many varmints with the Berger 115 Target bullet.

Can these loads be found easily, Gvine Bass Pro? Academy? Thanks again, finally getting to go out tomorrow and want to be sure not to waste too much time.
