Thought it might be interesting and informative for discussions to take a poll of how many rounds people shoot a year from their rifles. Please do not include .223/5.56, unless you hunt with one, and no rimfire. Looking for centerfire rounds used for hunting or shooting with hunting size rounds.

I chose 101-250 only about 20-30 of those are not shot at an animal while either sighting in or confirming zero. My target practice is on hogs I don’t really enjoy shooting paper or steel all that much but do it from time to time.

I picked 250-500. I do a lot of hog and varmint hunting. Target shoot a little, but vast majority of shooting is at an animal.

Depends, typically around 500 rounds from a rifle a year. Maybe 200 pistol. If we're counting dove hunting, add another 1500 rounds.

I chose 500-1000 because I can only think of 900ish rounds I fired this year. It could easily be over 1000 though. I also kept my 400ish 223 AI rounds in my count. An 80 grain bullet at 3100 fps is an adequate hunting round. Same energy as a .243 with the same bullet weight.

Went with 250-500.
Usually shoot between 100 and 150 6.8s a year at hogs.
About another 20-80 .223 at varmints depending on year and available targets.
The rest is spread over rifles and pistols I carry in my mule and punching paper and ringing steel.

Since I am the only one with a range, I get to shoot lots of courtesy rounds from friends too.

I went 1001+

500-1000 for me. I shot right at 1000 this past 12 months, but that's abnormally high. On a normal year, I might be even closer to 250 than 500.

I do shoot some 22 and pistol as well to add to that, and even a shotgun every now and again.

I've got right at 1k down my 6 creed since April this year. Another 300 on 22 creed and 300 on the 223ai since first weekend in December.

I voted 250-500 and it represents what I would normally shoot. I had 2 kids in the past 2 years so almost none then. But I'm slowly getting back into it and that's about the round count i was at before kiddo #1. Actually, I'd hoping to be more in the 750 range if I can hobble together enough free time now that they're older.
I'm almost exclusively at a range and fun shooting with about 10-15 shots for hunting/zero verification since we've shot these rifles plenty before.

PRS club matches and practice = over 1000 per year
Prairie Dogs = 300 to 800 a year
Other = 200 a year
Total = 1500 + per year

If you counted pistol and .22, I would be well over the 1K mark...probably over the 2k mark. .22 is good cheap practice, and fun to boot!

Centerfire rifles I regularly shoot include a 220 Swift, 260 Rem target rifle, 260 Rem hunting rifle, 308 bolt target rifle, 308 AR target rifle and 7 Rem Mag target/hunting rifle. Average somewhere around 250 rounds each per year. I also have a 223 target rifle and a 223 AR target rifle that get about the same number of rounds per year but I don't typically hunt with those. Throw in rimfire and shotgun shells and you can add another 500 - 750 rounds to the yearly total.

As a kid dad took us to the gun range early and often in preparation for deer season. I bought 3 boxes a year burned 2 at the range and hunted on the third.

In my early teens I picked up reloading and teens through when I got married at 26 I shot the 250-500 range.

Alas married with 2 small kids im in the 5-10 a year range. I typically take the gun to the range and fire one shot to ensure its on and get my wife to burn a few and the only other rounds I will shoot are at game. I would love to do much more of it, but life just doesn't permit the time for me at the moment.

I chose 500-1000 but this year is by far the most I've ever shot and it's closer to 500 than 1,000 (that's a big spread). I shot 3 competitions this year, 2 of them at Fireman's range, the hunting challenge and tactical challenge. The other competition was a RPS style in which I used 90 rounds but went through about 300 for practice.

Five years ago my answer would've been less than 50 and it seems to have doubled about every year. Next year could be an expensive year ammo-wise, especially since my CTR will be delivered any day now. I am also getting my son a 10/22 and I hope he can go through 500-1000 rds in the next 12 months because he's asking when he can shoot a deer. I told him when he's a good enough shot to kill the animal with one shot. He will practice with the 22 then my 300BO.

I’ve shot more rounds this year than I have in previous years combined. Prolly shot 30 or so rounds at targets, but I got a new rifle so gotta factor thst in.

Last year I shot probably 10 checking zero on two different guns.

Normally, unless I’m shooting at hair, I’m a 1-5 rounds per year guy, if that

Zero wasn’t an option so I didn’t vote. Most years would be 50-250 depending on what we did. Haven’t fired a shot in two years....probably won’t shoot anything until after the first of the year....

Work sucks....... bang

Actually, I tried to include "0" as the first option for the exact reason you mention, but the poll would not accept it for some reason. Hang in there, I went through some years like that. Hope things turn around for you. cheers
