Anyway someone could give me a little info on the 22 Nosler. I’m considering building one up. What are everyone’s thoughts on them? Are they worth it?

What do you want to know? It's a 22 round that's a little hotter than a 223 round.

It's a 22 round that's not as hot as the .224V grin
If your looking to shoot bullets in the 55 ~ 62 grain range, I'd go with the nosler as most barrels are made with a 1:8 twist. If your wanting to shoot heavier 90+ grain, go with the .224V with a 1:6.5 twist.

I was thinking about using it as a varmint rig. Maybe occasionally reach out and see what it can do.

You must be a guy that has a 224V.... up

If you reload check the brass quality and life, if you shoot factory only and don’t reload then make sure they have a loading you like.

If all else fails , go big or go home (22 Creedmoor)

I know how to reload, but I’m not a pro like Chad by no means. So if it comes down to it I could try reloading for it.

I know the early supply of brass was not lasting more than a couple of firings - not sure that it’s changed or if this caliber is just hard on brass.

You might ask around or research more if you plan to reload .

Lookup 22 Nosgar ....

This wouldn't surprise me. The brass case is a rebated round. The case body is bigger than the case head by .042". At the higher pressures of this 22 Nosler round, I could see primer pockets getting loose really quick.

Yes. The reason why is there is only .020" less diameter at the case shoulder than the case web area (.420" to .400"). So the case side walls are near straight. This makes for a harder extraction, even for a bolt gun. Add that to a self feeding and extracting AR firearm, and brass will get beat up, fo sho!.

If you are doing this with a bolt gun, there are several options far better than the 22N or 22V.

It’s an AR 15 build. After reading all this y’all are making me kinda regret this build. bolt

I was stuck between the .223 Wylde and 22N. Took a jump and went with the 22 Nosler. Hopefully I didn’t make a bad decision in this leap. I guess if it comes down to it I can rebarrel it to a .223 Wylde if it’s that bad.

Why regret it? The 22N looks like a big step up from the 223. I suppose cases will be considerably more expensive, but unless you are shooting hundreds of rounds a week or month, that’s no big deal.

I picked up a cheap 22 Nosler upper about 2 weeks ago. I've only been to the range once and I couldn't get my magneetospeed to work with the upper because of the hand guard so I was a little blind. Mine seemed to like 75 grain Gold Dots with Alliant MR2000.

Who is the barrel maker for your 22 Nosler ?

There has been a lot of tweaking done in the last couple of years - you might end up with a Peach ...

Not sure if you are asking me or OP. Mine was a $199 assembled upper from Davidson Defense. I wasn't expecting much but I had and extra bolt and charging handle so I figured it's something cheap to play with. I had the brass rims get tore up at first but later the brass looked good. Mine was doing it with slow powder (IMR4451) and an H2 buffer. I went to a standard buffer and a blue JP spring, and a little faster powder and the brass looked fine. I only tried 2 powders and the 77TMK and 75 Gold Dot. I have barely started playing with it so it's still an unknown.

Someone tell Buzz that 22 Nosler and 22 Creedmoor aren’t the same thing.

... well they’re both .22 cal confused2

But yes there is 400 FPS difference using 55 grain bullets between 22 Nosler and 22 Creedmoor

And one is an AR15 and the other is an AR10

I already have one built. Went with aero upper and lower, black hole weaponry barrel with 1/8 twist. CMC flat trigger. Put a vortex Viper on top. Should be good to roll now!

This guy has been tearing up the hogs with 55 E-Tip in the 22 Nosler. Only 1 out of 44 got away.
