We have decided to live in a 5th wheel. We'll probably do this for at least 5 years and perhaps indefinitely. Of course, I won't be able to keep all of my firearms and ammo in the trailer, so they will have to go to storage.

We will be living in the Corpus Christi area for the foreseeable future. We have found a storage facility that it about 50 miles inland. I will also be storing some woodworking tools like a table saw, drill press, and band saw. My son't would never let me sell those off. I know with the cast iron on the tools, they'll get a good cleaning and a heavy coating of Boeshield T-9. I will likely be storing the rifles in cases and inside of a Winchester residential fire-rated safe.

I figured I would put the extra ammo in ammo cans, but if there is something I need to know please inform.

I will also be storing my Lock-n-Load progressive press and consumables. I may sell the powders, but not really sure about what to do with the primers. I have quite a few.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I’m not 100% sure but, I believe that it is illegal to store firearms in storage facilities like the ones you see on the show storage wars. I can’t exactly remember the reason why or who I heard it from but it may be worth double checking.

I would ask 1 storage place about this and store elsewhere. You could call the Police station and ask them too. I've never had a problem doing that.

Most storage units forbid firearms in their terms of use. I know of a few gun stores that offer secure, long term storage of firearms.

Personally I would find a family member. And I for sure wouldn't store powder in a storage facility.

If you have to go the storage route, then I'd put a nice coat of oil on them and make sure you put some desiccants in the safe. Also, inventory everything with serial numbers, pictures, and get insurance.

If you have any that have sentimental value and you don't want stolen then I'd find somewhere else.

Thanks for the advice. I have a few things to consider.

Although storing with family would seem the best solution, I come from a den of convicts. My two sons and myself are the only ones to graduate high school and the only ones to have not served federal time. It's a shame, but I don't really have relations with my family.

My wife's parents are good people, but they will be almost 18 hours away. Plus, they run an state park during the summers and just shut their house down.

I may store the ammo in the bed of my truck. It has a locking hard cover. I will likely sell a few of my guns that are duplicate calibers or that I don't really need.

Dont store the ammo in your truck near the coast. The brass will oxide in a months time with the humidity and salt air.

Not sure how wood would be effected, but maybe oil them up then vacuum seal.

I would not store in a storage facility and certainly not one that close to coast,even if legal and not against the storage facility's terms and conditions. It is not legal to store ammo in a storage facility. If all other options fail (gun store storage, etc) then I'd look at a valet storage box where they provide you with box or two of size you choose, you pack and return it or have it picked up and they store and if climate controlled that would be a plus. As others mentioned be sure to put a good amount of some type of gun package canister dehumidifier, then at I'd have my valet box pulled every few months to check it and replace canister.
Good luck sir.

IMO, keep...

* what you NEED.
* anything that you cannot replace down the road.
* maybe sentimental items.

Sell everything else. I would not store anything.

I'd consult with one of the vehicle storage manufacturers and see if they custom make for RVs. I bet you are not the first to have this dilemma. I'd also look for a gun shop that would store and care for them in a safe, with alarm, etc.

If I had to store them, I'd use a marine lithium grease on external metal. I'd separate stocks and oil stocks like furniture (wood). Good and possibly new Ammo cans with lots of silica gel for handguns and ammo.

Don't vacuum seal guns or gun parts, unless you are greasing the @#$#@$@ out of them.

Why not vacuum sealing for guns? On the surface it seems like a good idea - no oxygen. I suspect that I am missing something....
