Here are the clay turkey heads we used to shoot every year around Houston and Lake Livingston (Onalaska) . First one I went to, I was 10, rode the train with my grandmother to Houston. Last one was around 1990?? I guess shooting was overtaken by Bingo or something to raise money. There were a dozen or so shooting events, There was a "benchrest" stage, shot closest to the "X" @100yd won. Standing Bear life size plywood bear with a "dime" sized hole in the chest, 50 yards offhand, hit it the siren went off and the bear fell over. "Swinging Hams", 25 yards off hand, cut the string, win a turkey. It was great they had huge tents with food, desserts and bingo for the ladies.

$2.00 a shot @ 100 yards, limit 4, then move to 125yards and hit two more, then you were done.

You would look up and down the firing line looking for a head turned sideways. If the shooters were doing too good, they would set the head looking straight at you.

That reminds me of the 70's when black powder shoots were popular. your targets went from playing cards turned sideways to shooting at a double bit axe stuck in a stump and a plate set on each side of it, where you had to split the lead ball into and break the two plates. All shooting was done off hand. I will be 69 next month and still shoot BP, but not off hand. I need a rest now.
