Anyone dealt with them on Ceracoatings? They seem really good. Only thing is, I have to completely strip my 1911 to the bone. Been watching youtube, I should be ale to do it.

did you have to disassemble your guns? I was watching the youtube from MADCUSTOMS. They do it all, 100% strip, sonic clean EVERYTHING, coat and re assemble.
does Scalpel do this.? It just seems Mad Customs is a real start to finish operation.

Yes, I disassembled. Madcustoms isn't doing the disassembly for free. It all comes at a price. Honestly, I'd rather disassemble myself rather than a paint shop. Let the paint shop do what they do best....paint.

Scalpel will disassemble, but charges a fee for it. I just disassembled my AR and reassembled when I got the stuff back. He does great work this is burnt bronze.

When I had them cerakote my KRG chassis I disassembled all parts and put them into individual plastic, zip lock bags. Then put all the individual zip lock bags in a box with my name and number on them so nothing would get lost.

You'll also need to understand that when you get the coated pieces back you may have to lightly file and or sand parts to fit them back together.
That's understandable as the cerakote adds a very minute layer and if your parts were tight to begin with , then....
Don't brute force them back in

I had Scalpel do an upper and lower for me too. They did an excellent job and were quicker than I was expecting.

Don't brute force them back in oh crap, this pistol was custom built (fitted slide to frame, bushing to barrel etc and is very tight. I may just blow it off, thanks for the heads up PP

You may just ask him to not paint the important bits like the frame rails and inside the bushing. They won't show when the pistol is put back together anyway.

Scalpel wants $100 to have a gunsmith disassemble and reassemble Your mission today. Go to 5 stores, and buy what ever tools you do not have to strip the pistol. And stay off the THF until it is finished.

And stay off the THF until it is finished. Then come back when it is all jacked up and we'll help you get it back together. Yes Buzz you'll need to remove the sights. You'll need a sight pusher. Some are gun specific and some are universal. I thought you were just getting the green changed. If that is the case you don't need to do anything to the slide part of the gun.

Buzz, I guess I missed the part about it being a $1600 custom gun. If that's the case then the only place I would have changing it would be the same place that did the custom work. That way, if there's any accuracy issues afterwards they'll be able to work them out. If you go with somewhere like Scalpel you'll have a pretty gun but if it impacts accuracy you're on your own. That's just my 2 cents.
