I am looking for a range gun. Primarily would be used to take some classes and hang out on the range.

My preference is 7mm-08 but I would take 6.5 creedmoor.

I like Remington's, but do not care for any of the packages at that level.

I am considering a 6.5 Grendel, but I think I would prefer a bolt action

I want a gun for the same purposes. I'm thinking about a RPR in 6.5 Creedmoor.

Why talk you out of one? That is a hell of a platform right there and they will shoot. I think there was an RPR in in 6.5 creed in the classifieds for around 1100-1300 late last year.

No need to talk you out of it. Lots of rifle for the money. Very capable of precise shooting in the right hands, with the right scope, and with good ammo.

Get it. Or build a Howa mini action in Grendel with a chasis if you really want a Grendel.

I will NEVER build another Grendel until someone makes a dedicated line of powders. It's the most tedious load to develop with the powders and bullets currently available. Don't get me wrong, I love the ability to put a 6.5mm round with a small case in either an AR or bolt rifle, but it will never perform to its potential with the current handloads, or factory ammo for that matter. I'll keep the upper I have now, but there are better options.

RPR is a great rifle, it is also easily modified , so you can make it better as you see fit. you could look at the new guns from Mossberg, savage, etc. They are all riding the coattail of the RPR's success.

You could even look at the Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor

I had a Grendel Bolt gun that was really accurate, it was Built by Dakota Arms. Their predator model. Not sure if they still offer them. But I agree with ITRDM above. stick with the Creedmoor, very user friendly.

One thing to remember with a Remington, Savage or Tikka, you will always have a good action on which you could build a "custom" someday.

I think I might be able to depending on budget and availability.

http://www.tikka.fi/rifles/tikka-t3x/t3x-tac-a1

Seems pretty awesome to me. Fully adjustable and the stock folds. Plus u get all the cool points for being the first kid on the block with one.

They are a little on the heavy side but for your use I'm not sure that matters. Great guns.

You want this crew to talk you out of buying a gun, GOOD LUCK

Like others have said it is a good gun.

As far as the Grendel and powder selection, CFE223 has been working very well for me with 123 Hornady and 130gr Berger Hybrids even though Hodgdon says it is too slow burning for the Grendel. The highest velocity in the Grendel is generally with Leverevolution powder with the 130s. It is a small case though so little changes can make a bigger difference.

X2. KRoyal got a nice setup on his.

The Tikka T3x TAC A1 is pricey-er than the RPR, but check this out.
There was a gentleman at the match running a T3x CTR with a Razor Gen I on it; also a very sweet set up, though I don't recall if in .308 or 6.5.

If you want to explore options further, Weatherby's Vanguard S2 is now in the Adaptive Composite and Modular Chassis trims. The sporter/normal version of this rifle is on par with a sporter/normal T3, from personal experience. up

I advise taking a serious look at the Tikka CTR. If it fits you well after shouldering the rifle it would give you a much better option for hunting with as well. I have one in 6.5 Creedmoor with a 4-20x50 Burris XTR II.

Guy in the bay next to me had one last week. He couldn't keep it on his paper. Had a couple rounds on my target. I had to give him a hard time since they were literally an inch away from my best group of the day, about .25".

I was kidding. The worst RPR ever made can stay on paper at 100.

He was shooting reloads with a nice vortex scope. It was curious seeing him struggle that much.
