I have been wanting this gun for a very long time and finally bought me one. I have a few questions on this gun and looking for some help answering my questions. First off is what ammo do you shoot. I have been looking and doing some research and I am thinking about the Nosler bullet. I would like to stay with a hunting round and not a Match ammo. Or is there two bullets that shoot close to the same so I can shoot Match and hunting rounds with little adjustments. Second is Scope, I am thinking about putting a Zeiss HD5 5-25-50 with RZ 1000 scope on it because I have that on my Creedmoor right now and thinking about going a different route with it. So that is an option or something with adjustable terrets work best. I have no big plans for this gun. Just shot when I want to feel manly and I'll have if I ever get to go big game hunting. Thanks for any help you can give.

I hand load mine...I use Lapua brass also have used some Prvi but like the Lapua much better, I have shot some of this ammo: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/147984...unter-box-of-20It worked well, and if you shoot a lapua you need to be shooting 285 grain bullets or heavier...or just get you a 338 win mag and be happy. I started off with my US Optics LR-17 I found it made a heavy gun even heavier, so went with a Bushnell Tac elite 4.5x30 XRS...it's heavy too but I like the retical better and has more magnification over the US Optics and is still a few ounces lighter...don't want to talk anyone out of something they want, but you sure don't need a 338 Lapua for big game...anything over my 300 WSM I feel I need to step up to my 375 or get up close with a big stick--like a 416 or a double gun, but the ol 3-3-8- is fun shooting steel past 400 yards--it sure makes wind calls easy....hope you get what you want.... Bud of mine has one. I've assisted in load development, and shot it a mile. 89 gr of H-Retumbo under a 300 gr Berger VLD.
Please put a better scope on that rifle.

I shoot a 338 Lapua improved when I am not shooting the 300 RUM or 260. I shoot 300 gr Berger Elites Handloads with Lapua Brass only in this rifle.

I'll be that guy......
If you have to ask these kinds of questions, you certainly don't need to be stumbling your way through figuring out how to operate a 338 Lapua. Sell that oversized cannon, and use the money to buy a couple cases of Creedmoor ammo.

I always wanted one and just looking to see what everyone else likes.

Crews is on the right track. I won't try to talk you out of the Lapua you want. I just think you should do some more research on it all before spending the money.

I have already bought the gun. It is something that has been on my "NEED TO BUY" for a long time. I'm just trying to find out what Ammo others are having good luck with without me buying abunch of ammo that don't shoot good.

I had one. Too much horsepower for what I needed. Always gave me a headache if I shot it much. I ran 300gr Scenar over 92gr of H-1000 with Lapua brass.

THIS ^^^^ My rifle liked 200 grain Accubonds and a healthy dose of RL-19. Somewhere near 86 grains should show a good accuracy node. I never tried anything heavier. Bought the gun for a brown bear or African hunt but my health won't allow that anymore so I sent it on it's way. If you reload for the rifle, BE CAREFUL. 338s show pressure signs very suddenly and with little warning. Start low and work up very slowly.

Nitron,
The 338 Lapua isn't that picky, in general, but getting a good round makes a big difference. I can load you anything you want in that round. Also, I can do a test load of 4 rounds in about 4 or 5 groups, (16 to 20 rounds), and see what your rifle likes. Once you shoot the test loads, you will know what it likes and can order ammo knowing that it shoots good already. I've done this for multiple high end rifles. Feel free to call or PM me. Thanks!
Chad
