Does anybody find this term to be overused, and maybe even a little silly? Apparently every rifle everybody shoots is a tackdriver. Just seems a little cliche. I'd rather use more tangible terms, like, "it'll shoot a 1" group", or even a simple, "its very accurate." Guess we all have pet peeves, and this is one of mine.

Thoughts?

Most things that most people say seem cliche to me. People find something they like, they wear it out, then use it some more.

Yup. I try to avoid cliches. I almost said "like the plague" but didn't, because that would be a chliche.

Seriously though, I do try to avoid them when I can, but we all say them sometimes I'm sure.

+1

Agreed,I also get tired of hearing it

Every rifle is tack driver seems nowadays...

Never heard anyone say..."this rifle couldn't hit the broadside of a barn $1000/obo"

I've got more things to worry about.

I have shot real tacks from 100 yards, at a match. The stage was called "tack driver". Not every rifle and every shooter was able to clean it. confused2

It's a term everyone can understand. Should we start using 1/4 or 1/2 MOA?

All my guns are "Tack Drivers" "when I do my part". I load up my "clip" with bullets and I can put "all 3 rounds" "into one hole at 100", "when I do my part".

That about sums it right dear!

Youre not cool unless you say "hammer". If you're really cool you can say that you have a tack driving hammer

Clips are awesome. cheers

I stunk it up yesterday at the range. The force was not with me and no tacks were in danger. One of those days.

I'd venture to say its a term that nobody understands. It doesn't tell you anything that can be understood. Every guy who shoots 5 rounds a year, and can put a round into the vitals on a deer at 100 yards thinks his rifle is a tack driver. People can understand its a " 5 shot 1 1/2 inch group at 100 yards gun"

How do you feel about calling your gun a "platform" as if it were something you were standing on?

I get where it comes from, custom guns(I think) but some people use that word in place of "gun" so much that I would not have even known they were talking about guns if they were not holding one.

Every gun can shoot sub-moa for at least 1 shot.

It all depends on how you "drive" your "platform"

Some of you get very bored easily. I've got more important things to worry about than the terms that people use to describe things.

A 1" group at what distance? A 1" group at 100 yards is accurate, but it's not a tack driver. A single ragged hole at 100 yards is a tack driver.
And yes, people use that term too often and too loosely to describe the accuracy of a rifle. If you tell me a gun is a tack driver, then I expect you to be able to shoot 3 tacks with 3 bullets at 100 yards.
I get tired of seeing "tactical" labels on everything.

It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

It drives me crazy when sellers advertise their rifles as "custom" but it's only a Remington 700 with a new stock and new trigger, ain't nothing "custom" about it. I don't own any customs, just a few rifles in different stocks with after market triggers.

Also, when people advertise "it's sub MOA" yet can't provide pics and when you ask them they respond with, "I don't have time to take pics." I call bs if I shoot a good sub moa group, I'm taking a pic.

I get nuts when I read about guys "running a platform." I think that means shooting a rifle.

Also saying "boolits" instead of bullets.

And saying "bullets" when they mean ammunition.
