Buy them cheap from her as a package deal then sell them separately for a profit.

You can look up there values on Gunbroker pretty easy. good luck with the sale. Most places will offer you half of what they are going to sell them for. A private sale would be the most profitable but it can be a pain in the butt if you have a lot of guns to sell.

....but to get an accurate idea of value using GunBroker, create an account so you can search COMPLETED items. There are hundreds of thousands of guns for sale there at 150-300+% more than their real value. Sellers put them up at high prices forever waiting for the next sucker. Don't go by asking price.

Pass the gravy.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the recent Executive Orders on firearm sales make doing this a risky move for a Non FFL?

I bought a rifle from a man selling his late brother's extensive collection on Armslist.. It would have to be a hassle to keep track of emails and offers. And then shipping... confused2

I don't think that has been implemented yet because of financial backing? flag

I never said don't use an FFL but I'm not sure if that is even in effect yet.

I'd sell them here. 2 ways to go about it

1. sell them myself through the classifieds.
2. contact of few of the dealers/collectors that are here regularly, solicit bids on them as a lot and take the highest one.

Im not talking about the background checks on private sales issue.

I'm talking about a non ffl buying firearms with the sole intent to flip them for a profit. Again, I'm not an expert, but reading this ATF faq on the subject would make me hesitate to do that myself..

Can you post a list? That may help. You could also sell the entire lot to a ffl but most are going to give 50% the value at best

Thinking along the same lines as Cleric. If there's more than 50 firearms, I'd at least consider it. The FFL assumes all the risk, and it's his money that's now tied up in the collection.

She walks away with cash.

If she's not in a bind she should list them individually and get the best money. If she's in a bind and you have the money, make her an offer. Or list the lot here at a good value.

Is that REALLY what you would do to a friend who lost her husband?

For the OP...

If there is a LGS you have a good relationship with and trust, see if they will sell the guns on consignment. They will take a commission but they will have an incentive to get at least a fair price for them. If your friend is not in a hurry this would be the simplest way to handle it legally and hassle free.

If she just wants to get rid of them sure. If she wants to make some money back of of them then maybe I would just buy a gun or two to remember my friend by. People die something has to happen with their possessions.

I wouldn't sell them on consignment. She'll lose more that way than selling them discounted as a group.

As long as you're upfront with her on the value of the guns and she decides to cut you a break, Im fine with it. If you deceive your friends widow, then thats pretty low. Me personally, Id sell them for her at no profit for myself out of respect.

I agree be up front with prices but if she just wants to get rid of them she should give you a good package deal because they obviously have to sentimental value to her if she is trying to sell them.

Its not really about sentimental value either. Its about helping someone out when they're in need, especially a friend. Heck, if one of my friends or family members needed me to help sell guns I may even do it out of my own pocket. I would never ask or assume a "good package deal".

We don't know the whole story. Maybe she hates guns and just wants them gone and couldn't careless how much she makes off of them. If it's to help with funeral costs or because she is having financial issues that's a whole different scenario and I agree I'd help as well. What I'm saying is if she just wants them gone buy them as a package deal and then sell them or keep them or sell some and keep others.

I imagine you would have an easy time selling them on here just below value, and this way you know who's hands your putting these guns into.

Buy or borrow a current Bluebook to get each guns value; then buy a table at a gun show and sell them
for what they are worth. Subtract your costs from the resulting revenue.

This would be my suggestion too.

I just want to help her out. I am not making a dime off of the transaction. When I get a list I will post.
Thanks.
