Howa has announced they will be bringing out the 6.5 Grendel mid year 2016 in their micro bolt action then later in the year the 7.62X39. Perhaps this will also get CZ off their tails and produce the 527 in this fun little round.

I like it! I wonder which barrel I'd choose, too many choices. I think I'd go with the 22"
20" lite 20" bull 22" regular profile

I'm shocked at the velocity they get out of that short little round. Very cool.

Well hopefully can make it an accurate one since they haven't figured why their 6.5x55 aren't?

I'm shocked at the velocity they get out of that short little round. Very cool. I loaded up some 100 gr Partitions with a max load of XBR and couldn't believe my eyes when the chronograph showed an average of 2942 fps. That's fast for that little case.

Yeah, I googled it when I first heard of it and thought to myself "great another top heavy slow poke" when I saw the ammo. After I read the ballistics I had to rub my eyes.

I'm shocked at the velocity they get out of that short little round. Very cool. . Can get a little better velocity from a boltaction rifle than an AR, no gas tax. But yes those velocities are doable, fastest I have run mine with a 22 inch barrel is 2700 with a 123gr SST bullet but that was what I considered a little too hot and stopped there, started sticky bolt lift there so backed off .5 gr powder for the max I would ever workup, .6gr below that is in an accuracy node so happy with 2650 with that bullet.. Not bad for less than 30gr of powder, and could get a little more with a different powder that I do not have as much of.

I sure hope it feeds good and the magazine stays put when firing - seen some strange stuff with the Savage B-mag, Keltec RDB, and Remington R51 that makes me scratch my head and hesitate to be an early adopter of new released guns. Crossing my Bacon Strips and hoping for the best

He says that the rifle has been "re-introduced" in .222 - But nothing about that shows up on the Legacy website.
The 6.5 Grendel is an interesting round, but I was more excited to hear about the .222 Remington chambering.
Now I have to wonder, "Was the guy blowing smoke out of his shorts?"

Here's an announcement that seems to indicate a 2016 date for the 222 and late 2016 for the Grendel and 7.62x39. http://www.ammoland.com/2015/09/new-howa.../#axzz3qpTb3tbk
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Who's gonna reach for the 222 over the 6.5 first? I bet this brings back some memories for some of you mature fellas. I won't lie, I perked up when I heard him say that too. Pretty cool. I'd definitely opt for the heavy barrel for all of the calipers offered because the extra weight doesn't bug me.

I think I'll wait on buying a SSA Howa in any case, as I'm not finding anything for them at Boyds Stocks yet. Those rubber-coated, pillar-bedded Hogue stocks are OK - but I just personally don't get much of a thrill out of them.
When I start seeing aftermarket stocks for super-short Howas, maybe by then the .222 and 6.5 Grendel will be available too.
Kind regards, charlesb

I have left a "WANT" message with every wholesale warehouse I deal with, that I want a 20" lite weight 6.5 Grendel in OD Green. Call me, and then send it. Dies, bullets, and brass waiting on delivery. I have 500 rounds loaded for my 16" AR, but I am sure the COAL will be different.

School us please on the .222, I'm not familiar with it.

School us please on the .222, I'm not familiar with it. Came about in 1950, and was the first rimless 22 centerfire. Compared to the rifles of the day, the new cartridge was inherently accurate, shot fast, and had a flatter trajectory which made it super popular with target shooters and varmint shooters for decades. Remington eventually stretched the cartridge into the modern 223. Once adopted by the military, the availability diminished the 222 in the USA but in other countries where you can't own military calibers, guns get re barreled to 222.

Yeah, and besides being a good varmint round, there was a long stretch where just about all of the benchrest matches were being won with 222's. Remington designed a new case for the 222 from scratch. Lots of other rounds derive from that basic case. According to the Hornady manual, 52 grain bullet top velocity in the 222 is 3374 fps, and in the 223 it is 3448 for comparison. Just about all 222's are built on 1-12" twist barrels, so bullets 55 grain and lighter work best with them. Great for a lightweight walking varminter, nice for a heavy target gun too. They don't use much powder and shoot the lighter 22 bullets, so they are very economical to shoot. Chuck Hawks on the 222 and 222 Magnum
