Checked out the new store in Round Rock this weekend. If you haven't been there, do yourself a favor.. although a lot of what they have isn't cheap, but then again, neither is dirt these days. they have several side by side 20 ga. for $55-$95k, shown by appointment only! They even sell TACTICAL BACON!!!

Guessing you didn't shop much during the last gun run huh. CTD price gouged like crazy. Think they were charging something like $100 per pmag not to mention all their other crap I'll never shop there. Never would anyway much better prices online than their regular non-gouge prices.

They could be selling .45 ACP for a penny a shot and they won't get another red cent from me.

I haven't looked at one thing they have since Sandy Hook. Even before that they killed you on shipping.

Guess I missed that. I've never shopped there myself, but I don't bemoan businesses for playing by the laws of supply and demand. What good is a gun shop without guns, ammo and mags? If $100 wasn't fair, what was fair? They had to keep stuff in stock, right? Not trying to defend them, but I just don't understand that attitude.

How would you feel if you had a existing order with them for items that were clearly in stock at time of purchase. Then after the order is placed prices on said items sky rocket on the secondary market. They then cancel your order and claim the items are out of stock. Then you look on their website and find that the items are NOT out of stock at all but now have a price mark up of 600% or more. Oh.......and lets say they go ahead and ship the part of your order that cost less than $10 and weights less than 1 pound and that didn't suffer from the crazy price increase but they didn't bother to tell you they cancled most of your order until AFTER they shipped your cheap stuff and still charged you more in shipping than what they shipped cost. LOL!

That happened to me. wink

They way they treated their customers was dumber than dirt, and as can be seen, most remember.

There are many places with outstanding customer service and treat them like they want them.

Support the places that support their customers.

I still shopped there before Sandy Hook even though they have shown this same pattern before..but Sandy Hook was the last straw. I've not shopped there since. However, I HAVE gone into the McKinney store on a few occasions to internally laugh at their prices and listen to the sounds of crickets chirping in their store. Normally it's after I've spent a butt load at Cabelas. I don't know how they keep the B&M stores going - every time I've been in there haven't been many customers compared to the pre scare days.

I don't shop there either, but I don't think they're hurting too bad from the boycotts since they recently bought the rest of the building next to the McKinney store. Just too many yuppies that want to look at a wall of guns around here I guess

They had bricks of no-name Mexican .22 LR for $85 in the spring of 2013.....the last time I walked in the McKinney store.

Pass the gravy.

Guess I missed the gouging. I just bought some pistol ammo from there and got a better deal than anything else I could find anywhere even with the shipping which I will admit is high.

I guess I'll echo others' comments...

I used to buy something from them and had minor issues. Then the gouging happened and it was noticeable. I barely have any morals when it comes to doing retail business, but I do believe in loyalty as a sustainable long term model. They clearly do not, therefore I will never send them a penny of my moneys.

I bought a shotgun from them last year. Jc Higgins 12ga pump. Only reason I bought it is because they were doing a promotion where they paid for your NRA membership for a year if you bought any gun. Gun was marked at $100. I was going to buy my membership that week anyways. Ended up paying $70 for the gun. Felt like I screwed them.

I have never shopped with them. When I researched them for pricing in the past, they seemed to be higher than many others so I don't even check their prices anymore. I did see what they did during the last gouging, but if there are people that will pay it...

CTD pretty much started the run on guns and ammo by themselves. When Sandy Hook happened and there was talk and fear that serious weapons legislation would be coming down the pike, CTD was one of the first, and most notable, to start hiking prices even though nothing had happened. When other places started to follow suit CTD just kept upping the ante and in doing so put the fear of God in all of us that we'd never be able to get mags and ammo again. So $10 magazines became $100, and you get stories like the one above where they cancelled orders in the pipeline in order to re-price the items (and screw over customers). I didn't buy anything from them (never have), but I did look at just some regular hunting ammo during that time and they were at $55 a box for stuff that was normally $25-30.

That stinks. Sounds like they do have a customer service problem.

Like I said, I wasn't trying to defend them specifically, but rather just offer the opinion on gouging from the other side.

My favorite gun shop (Ammo Depot in Caddo Mills) raised prices significantly during the last run. But I understood it. They're a gun shop and have to keep stuff in stock. On the other hand, they would never treat their customers like your story above. That's really crummy.

You want blatant examples...when Sandy Hook first happened CTD stopped all gun and ammo sales online and in the store - for a short period of time. When they restarted them - the ammo I used to buy from them (Federal Hi-shock 230gr .45 box of $50) had gone from $19.99 per box to $75. The previously $800 AR's on their wall - were still there but with price tags of $2000-3000. As mentioned previously - the $10 PMags were now $100. The $20 bricks of .22 were now $100. These were not guns, ammo and accessories that were subsequently obtained at higher prices from their whole salers and passed on at retail - these were the same damn inventory (and in the case of online, often inventory that had been SOLD at the previous low prices). Never again. I don't care if it's Free as Dirt...I won't buy from em. I will however continue to go into their store and laugh at them.
