When I took down an old gate of cracked and cupped 3 1/2-inch fenceboards, they looked like they belonged on a burn pile. Then I used the magic of my thickness planer to reveal the true character beneath the worn and warped surfaces, planing the backs first to remove much of the cupping, then taking about two-thirds off the front to leave some of the weathered gray these boards earned from their years under the Texas sun. I am cutting some up for a headboard project and I think it will turn out nicely.

That sounds like a good project, I like the look. Maybe keep some pieces for picture frames and other furniture
I have made many pictures frames with them by just sanding them a bit to reveal some of the cedar.

Like the headboard design, great use of materials. I have seen this type wood usually used a picture frames and small pieces of furniture. Has a nice "rustic" feel.

My wife would love that. She calls it “country sheek”. Maybe that is spelled “chic”.
