I have several (many) game cam pics of the dang buzzards all around my corn feeder, and a coyote shows up and hangs around the edge of the buzzard mob. It happened the other morning when I shot a coyote, who was at the edge of the buzzards. With the assumption that coyotes don’t eat corn (no pictures of them doing that), what would draw coyotes to the buzzards? All I can think of is that the buzzards smell like dead things, which draws hopeful coyotes.

Any other ideas?

Buzzards smell like dead things because they eat dead things. If you have a dog, you know they use their nose but they also like to cheat and use their eyes. The buzzards are likely a learned queue that maybe an easy meal is close by for the coyotes, because the buzzards are easily run off

Coyote might just be hanging around the feeder trying to pick off a coon, squirrel, turkey, or etc.

Buzzards are getting hungry this time of year.
I shot a coon yesterday morning, and within a couple hours 20 buzzards were picking it apart (though I haven't shot any buzzard-bait in 6 months!)

It’s been a month ago but I had a coyote coming to my feeder about twice a week

I ended up getting him but I think he was eating the corn on occasion

I know when we go and check the feeders my German Shepherd for some reason like to grab a bite of the corn off the ground so I assumed the coyote was too

I’ve never seen coyotes eat corn before, but some old friends in the midland area swore that if hungry enough, coyotes would take to corn.

Indeed they will. Fox will also.

I've observed it many times.

I think this is the only 'video' I have of it though. Coyote eating some hand broadcast corn I put out for the deer.

WAs hunting in South Texas years ago and got on stand a little early. It was pitch dark. Started hearing munching sounds coming from the feeder and was expecting to see a bunch of deer. It finally got light enough to see and the munching sounds were coming from 3 wets that were plenty hungry. I stuck my rifle out the window to show them someone was in the blind, not pointed at them, but I did not want them to drop in for a siesta and they went on their way. You might be surprised what is eating your corn. I know I was. They must have been really hungry.

I e seen a few coyotes eating at my feeder. My question has always been this, why wouldn’t a coyote grab and eat a buzzard. I’ve seen them standing beside them waiting to get to a dead animal. Seems that would be an easy meal. Maybe they are just too nasty even for a coyote.
