After landing back in dfw wed afternoon From 12 days in Kodiak, I know I’d be in doghouse but had a gut feeling I needed to go up and try and get on my target muley! He had shown 2 times while in Kodiak but on the 13th my camera battery died. So Friday morning I did payroll, rescheduled few appointments and headed northwest. After 4 hour drive it put me at camp around 3:45. I hurried, switched clothes, grabbed my bow and batteries for my cam.

After 15 min drive in the ranger I parked on opposite side of the big wheat field and walked about 700 yards to my blind. There I switch batteries because I was to eager and got settled in. Once my cell cam pinged I had nothing less than 700 pics from 14th til yesterday morning. And to my surprise my muley had been there the last 3 sits. I’m pumped!

After hour- 15 feeder rings at 6:00 at 6:03 a young 10 I see nearly every sit comes in. I just watch him for around 10 min when he looks back nervous….. out of the left window an old wide 7 muley comes out. No history or pics or this deer, I realize he’s a great management buck that’s mature but to early and my muley to frequent. I watch them about 5 min when I decide I’ll take good video of them. I pull my phone out and start to video. The deer just eating acting normal about 30 secs of recording out of corner my eye he comes strolling in…..

I hurry, cut the video set down the phone, grab my bow and honestly my hearts pounding….. he starts to skirt the feeder looks as if he will go passed and head to the wheat, I draw and as I do he turns slightly quartering away at 37, I release… unfortunately I hit about 3-4” back but deer takes off runs about 30 yards and piled up. Fortunately I cut the very back part of the lung and destroyed the liver, BBD

Being at the ranch solo i had hard time getting good photos but tried my best, very happy with my winch I put on the headache rack it saved me.

My best muley to date!

Fantastic fantastic buck. Really a big and cool rack. A mountain goat, a Sitka and a great Mulie, all within a week or so-thats amazing. I know you still have a WT tag or two as well. Likely a season you may never top.
Out of my few bow kills, if I made the shot you described, it would of been a much longer track.
I love hearing stories like this and the pics so I hope others will do the same.
Congratulations.
