Probably stupid question, but still have to ask. Any difference scouting or finding teal different from regular ducks? Got a few green wing teal late season last year, but have never tried to target blue wing teal. I guess they migrate early? Will they act like other ducks with mainly leaving a roost to feed, and that being on/near lakes/water? Any advice on my first attempt?

bring lots of mosquito repellant. when you think you have enough, bring 2 more. Up here in North Texas we typically hunt the marshy end of big lakes. We use spinners and mostly hen decoys as ducks are not yet in full plumage. Can be very hit or miss, doesn't take much of a cool front to bump em south. south Texas they used to hunt em in the rice fields, not sure what they do now.

Spinners, spinners, and more spinners.

We were out on the duck lease in SE Louisiana yesterday June 10 and we have some teal flying around. Saw 10 or so. I guess they are not interested in migrating.

As previously, bring LOTS & LOTS of mosquito spray, 2 or 3 thermocells wouldn't hurt either. Early teal decoy pretty well so worrying about decoy setup typically isn't an issue as long as you have some decoys and a couple spinners you'll be fine.

Don't forget to ask for teal tags when you get your license...if you wait till teal season to get them they will probably be out by then.

No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

Make sure you know what you are shooting at, this video helps. We have a lot of rainbow teal where I hunt.
