No shame in second place to ILUV.
What does he win?

Pretty dang close....BOTH of us!

I usually am low and for good reason. When I used to guide I'd rather tell the hunter he is 135" and he measures up rather than down. lol

Hell of an 8 for the OP. Congrats again.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

How do you measure mass? I have a big eight I would like to rough score. Might be a bit bigger than the subject deer.

rickt, pretty sure you can just google Boone and Crockett scoring system and find out your answer.
Roughly, you get 4 measurements per side on how big around the main beam is. Between the burr and brow, between the brow and the next point, between that point and the next one and so on until you get 4 to the side. If its just an 8 pt the 4th measurement is taken halfway between the last point and the end of beam. There is never more than or less than 4 measurements to the side, regardless of number of points. Always measure at the smallest area within those boundaries. The type deer youre talking about will likely be between 12 and 18" to the side.

Well I found an article from Field and Stream online and amazingly it comes out 160 3/4. Going to have to ask someone with a little experience measuring deer horns to verify. I only measured one side and doubled that because the way the head is hanging it is easier to get to the left side. Beam 22 3/4", inside spread 20", first circumference 3 7/8", 2nd 3 7/8" third 3 7/8", 4th 2 78" G1 4 1/2", G2 11", G3 8". I know standing on a folding ladder is not the best way to measure but I did the best I could. I thought it odd the circumference for three diameters were the same also but measured several times with a dressmakers measuring tape.

I haven’t rechecked your math but sounds like you may of doubled the spread also, which is wrong. A 160 buck would LOOK way bigger than the OPs deer, even to a non scorer. Also, a tape like that will short you just a smidgen compared to a 1/4” steel tape which is official.

Agree, a 160" 8 pt. is a bruiser, not like DStroud's 190" toad 8pt. but a bruiser. Takes lots of bone to move a 8pt. North of 150", let alone 160.

Thought for sure he'd touch 140. And I agree with the recent discussion about 150+ 8-points. I've got an 8 and a 9 from Kansas that are right at 150. But their bodies were so big that it actually dwarfed their racks.

I think this coming season you and I both are going to have plenty of opportunities to do a whole lot better............range conditions are fantastic.

Exactly what I was thinking...been a while since I've seen my place so green. I need to get a real rain gauge out there and I will very likely mow in July. I'm hoping "big rain means big antlers" holds true.
