A friend that has chickens was having about one chicken a week killed inside the pen and the only thing missing on that chicken was its head. Said he found a small hole and got it fixed and the killings have stopped.

He is wondering what was doing that, what would kill several chickens and only take the head?

My guess is a raccoon. If the pen is chicken wire, the raccoon will reach thru and pull the chicken head thru the wire. I had to add 1/2" hardware cloth to the bottom 2' of the coop because of this.

A possum. A small possum can fit thru a small hole or gap. Seen it happen too many times to my own.

Yea, I was going to do a custom one, but after looking how much materials cost we might just go with one of those. I'm already getting up to the $450-$500 dollar range on materials.

Yall check out "hoop coops" for a secure run. Made with cattle panels and 2x4's, easy and works great. Chicken wire goes over the outside.

A friend of my wife buys what is suppose to be free range eggs and gives us some periodically and we are very grateful for that.

When cooking quite frequently the yolk bust when cracking the egg, the yolk is just a light yellow instead of the darker richer ones that I was use too and the White is thin and runny.

So my question is, are the chickens not getting enough protein or??

I know you have already drawn blood building your new one but check this one out..

McKinney also!

This is well over a $1600 value! Slightly used. Housed some happy chickens for a year! The signs & metal Rooster included. Run easily detaches from coop! You’ll need a truck to haul!

Lol the one I’m building is gonna make that one look like a shack lol. It’s gonna be a chick mansion with rain catchment automatic watering system. 8ftx4ftx7ft.

This project is going to actually take me a while to complete lol.

It’s coming along nicely. Just need more time in the day and not to fall out from the heat.

I actually had it framed out but didn’t like how it ending up so I actually ripped it completely down yesterday and restarted. I worked on it from 9am to around 4pm and was starting to feel really bad and getting dizzy. I was drinking a ton of water but was sweating so much it didn’t seem to help. Today was much better and didn’t seem near as hot as yesterday. Still got a lot to do, but almost time for paint.
