I am going on several duck hunts this season and was looking at some extended chokes. Was wondering if any of you benelli owners out there have found a particular model that has worked well for you? Are they any better than the Carlson non-extended that I already have? I also wanted to avoid ported tubes; they are louder and I already have too much hearing loss.
Will be shooting over decoys mostly. Ammo wise probably gonna stick with WIN SuperX 1550 FPS in #2 or #3.
Was looking at the Carlson Creamator in the MR and LR but then thought to check here to see if they are worth the money.
thanks for the info...

Use the factory choke that comes with the gun, no need for the fancy extended chokes and barrel stickers. I would not shoot those Win Super X shells though, if anything buy better ammo, those are probably the worst and pattern terrible.
An extended choke will not be much help shooting over decoys anyway, either you can shoot or you can't and an extended choke is not going to be much help if you can't.
Your kill ratio will improve a lot just by not using those Win loads.

I agree with the above. The only benefit I see from extended tunes is you can hand tighten/loosen which makes cleaning a little easier.

I don’t have a super, just the nova. I shot the factory modified choke. All season both dove and duck.

I'm a fan of Light Mod for ducks over dekes with #2s- Carlsons makes em, ext or not -no porting.

In the decoys your factory IC will work fine.
All around choke, aftermarket extended LM. I prefer Briley because they are a Texas company, but Carlson’s makes fine chokes too.
Thought for the day: Ducks were almost hunted to extinction long before camo was invented.

Use the factory choke that comes with the gun, no need for the fancy extended chokes and barrel stickers. I been using my factor SBE2 IC choke 10 years now.

I once took a shooting lesson from Mohunter and I haven’t missed in two years. True story Man you did take a beating that day, especially when that last duck was picked up and had a band on it! Look at the bright side though, you learned how to "float" that 4th shell that day.

I see you have gotten plenty of choke tube advice but no one has recommend a brand of extended choke tubes. I will offer my two cents. I use Trulock extended tubes. They aren't overly expensive and they group well out of my SBEII using Kent Fasteel.

Have a Carlson’s and patternmaster. Both pattern well with Kent, for me. I agree for the most part with what was already said, it’s not going to help you kill more birds if you can’t already shoot. The benefits I’ve noticed from using them 1. Can tighten by hand 2. Helps protect from muzzle damage 3. far less cripples. I’m putting more pellets, in a more consistent pattern, in the kill zone vs with my factory chokes, at least with the 5 types of shells I patterned with.

^^^^ easy in and out and no muzzle dings
And- definitely go pattern your shotgun! If you end up coming through DFW I'll gladly give you some shells from bunches of different brands to test out.
I'm actually a big fan of the 3 and 3.5" Winchesters in #2-- but I don't try to squeeze them through a tight choke and I did pattern them. I found that high velocity, large pellets and tight chokes don't make for good patterns. Hence the Light Mod I tend to shoot for near everything...
Percentage wise I did not see an improvement worth the money from Kent EXCEPT-- I keep a handful of their 3" #6 steel or some of their Teal Steel for shooting cripples- the patterns give great density for hitting the "off switch" on crippled ducks or geese.

Your kill ratio will improve a lot just by not using those Win loads. Well, I changed to the extended choke tubes a few years back, after I lost my choke tube kit and discovered that fact upon needing to change chokes in the field...and all they had available was the extended tubes...other than being easy/fast to change and being offered in really good mid choke type offerings, nothing really special to them IMO. I did eventually find the original tubes, but I seldom use them anymore. Bailey/Carlson, don’t recall which, offhand.

Thx DH. I have a LM choke, will try patterning with it. Thanks for the offer of shells, super generous. My Mom lives in the N. Dallas/Richardson area, I might just take you up on it.

For a very good, cheap load, it's hard to beat Federal blue box loads, 3", 1 1/8 ounce shot, 1550fps, I shot 2's but 4's would be okay for smaller ducks too.
RogersSportingGoods.com has them for $99.99 per case with free shipping and a $20 rebate, total price $79.99 for a case of shells is hard to beat.

I don't believe that aftermarket choke tubes pattern any better than the ones that come with the quality guns these days if that is your only goal. I do like extended chokes because they protect the barrel of the guns a little bit. Kind of nice if you're leaning your gun up in a pit blind, etc.

Extended chokes are meant for one reason: they make changing chokes quicker. If you expect your targets to be, say at around 50 yards out, you might want to go with a modified choke. But what if you get in the blind and the birds are flying in at about 30 yards? You can quickly change to an improved cylinder choke, which would be more efficient.
I've used Carlson, Briley and Beretta chokes for years. They all work very well. Use a pattern board to determine which ones pattern best with your gun and load.

Here's a good all-around extended tube that'll fit what you're looking for without dropping too much coin. Don't get caught up in the upland marketing. The "early season" one is a LM constriction.

I do like extended chokes because they protect the barrel of the guns a little bit. Kind of nice if you're leaning your gun up in a pit blind, etc. This simple fix will get you beleiving. Browning A5 (new version), shoot the same loads with the stock chokes, Trulock, then Briley. Regarding extended chokes, that added protection on the barrel is def a plus.

OP here. I ended up with the Carlson creamator extended tubes in LM and Improved modified. Thanks for all the advice.
If me and my buddy shoot the same kind of gun, do we both need to pattern or will they shoot the same? Assuming same load, choke, etc.
