I'm guessing this is a special run. I have one coming. I've been waiting for someone to do a 6.8 bolt again and Ruger 77 is my favorite bolt action. Ruger 77 Compact 6.8 spc

I think mfg are missing the boat on selling a bunch of 6.8 bolts to people that have 6.8 ARs. I'd take one on a super-short action with a 20" medium contour/threaded.

I have owned a Compact in 308 and 260. I can't think of a better caliber for that rifle than the 6.8.

Thanks. It's a little under 7lbs with scope and a little under 36" overall. Trigger is 4lbs out of the box with just a hint of creep. Ruger really should start offering the 6.8 in their American Compact & American Ranch, it would be a great platform for women and young shooters. Turns out these rifles were "found" old stock from Davidsons. They only had 8 rifles and they sold out in about 48 hours.

Im going to find me one of those. The 6.8 has become my favorite round and everything about the Ruger Compact screams "perfect" for the 6.8. Really miss my 260 Compact and been looking for a reason to buy another one. The Compact chambered in the 6.8 is my reason.

Did they make any in the stainless/laminate by chance? I don't believe they ever did. I think they just did the blue/wood for a short time.

They are great rifles, light and accurate with detachable mag!

These were from the 2008 run that were just recently found in a distributor's warehouse. I think there were only 6-8 rifles that were found. Remington and Ruger both did 6.8 SPC bolt actions and had a hard time selling them. It's a neat idea, but not enough people were buying them to keep producing. I'm converting a Howa mini-action for a buddy to 6.8 SPC, but in doing my market research, it just doesn't seem practical for me to build a bunch of them. The 6.8 SPC crowd is just too fickle for one rifle; some want a SAAMI 6.8 SPC to match the ammo in their rifle, some only thing the 6.8 SPC II is worth pursuing, I just haven't been able to find a consensus polling 6.8 shooters as to what they would put money down on. Most like the idea of a 6.8 bolt action, but won't spend $1,500 on a custom rifle in it when they can buy a $500 AR in the same caliber...custom rifle aren't any cheaper just because they shoot a cartridge you can get in cheaper rifles.

If you are polling on the 6.8 Forums, you are getting a bunch of people that live in their own bubble where twist rates and land/groove ratios are magic fairly dust to turn the 6.8 in to 6.8 ultra mag. Out in the real world if someone produced a $500 SAAMI Spec bolt action, it would sell. JMO.

Here's my Ruger #2 6.8mm SPC-II. Shoots tiny groups. I hunted with it last season using 110 Nosler AB's. This season I'm trying 115gr Speer GD. I love it as a Texas WT deer outfit!

I haven't done any polling there, but I have done a bit of reading and talked to some friends that are pretty avid 6.8 guys and forum participants. You definitely have the forum members' numbers, though! I think the Howa Mini Action, at it's price point, should be able to sell in 6.8, maybe even a Ruger American in the caliber. I see a lot of friends starting their kids hunting with 6.8 ARs, which is a good caliber, but I think there is too much going on with a semi-auto, especially a Gucci'd up AR to teach a new shooter proper skills on. What I don't see is the advantage a $500 6.8 bolt action has to a new shooter with no other rifles over a $400 .270, and I have been buying used 700 .270s and .30-06s for the last few years (average is $354 with tax, S&H, and FFL transfer fee over six rifles; $418 for Magnum 700s) for class projects to build on.
