Yesterday my daughter e-mailed me, again, asking why I didn't do something useful with my time. Sitting around the pool and drinking beer isn't a good way to spend your senior years" she said.
"Huh", I thought. "I worked my whole life just so I could sit around a pool and drink beer."
She assured me that she is "only thinking of me" and insisted I go down to the Senior Center and get involved in a more active lifestyle.
Well I decided to play a little prank. I sent her an e-mail saying that I had joined the Senior Parachute Club.
She replied, "Dad, are you nuts? You're 74 years old and now you're going to start jumping out of airplanes?"
I replied "Well, I was a little hesitant. But all of the guys at the Senior Center seemed to be wild about the Parachute Club and recommended it highly."
I told her that I even had a Membership Card and would e-mailed a copy to her immediately.
About two minutes after that email the phone rang. It was her - almost yelling. "Good grief, Dad, where are your glasses? Is your hearing aid working? This is a membership to a Prostitute Club, not a Parachute Club."
"Oh man, am I in trouble," I said, "I signed up for five jumps a week!" The line went dead.
Well, back to the pool. But I need to get to the market this afternoon. My beer supply is getting low.
If you can't laugh at yourself, give me a call. I'll gladly laugh at you.
