Looking at the LaCrosse brushtuff or swamptuff models. Anyone have a set? Do you like them? Have they held up? Pros/Cons?

I would normally go with Cabelas brand but since BP bought them out i'm looking to go a different direction.

Any other wader recommendations? And no I'm not spending a grand on Sitka's.

Thanks in advance.

Why? Just because BP bought them? You think they would get rid of Cabela’s brand? I don’t. No reason for them to do that.

Had a pair that didnt make it a year. Hated them, the boot was hard to break in and I got blisters every dang time.

I have some Rogers Sporting Goods breathable that I really like. I would look at Drake and Banded as well.

I've had two pair...but they are the 1600 Thinslate the first pair lasted about 4 seasons and the 2nd pair leaked after season 2, I aquasealed the seam and seems to be doing fine. They are fleece lined and warm as can be but too warm during the early season.

I think long term they will phase it out/roll it in to BP. They say they won’t for now, but I’m sure they do it eventually.

And to stay on topic, I enjoyed the gator waders I bought before last season. I got the previous season’s breathable waders and they were warm and comfortable. Plus, they stood up to the abuse that I put them through (including breaking ice twice and I don’t break up ice the way I should if I’m wearing waders).

I'm using gator waders also this year. So far I like them. I'm using breathable non insulated now and for early big ducks. when it gets cold I got the breathable insulated.

Let’s get specific, you are saying they are going phase out Cabelas branded hunted gear in favor of Redhad hunting gear (BP’s hunting gear brand)? That would be a huge mistake if they do that, Redhead gear sucks. But even if they did, they would still back Cabela’s warranty and replace it with Readhead crappy gear.

I have the brush tuff and I have no complaints at all with them. Never had an issue. Never had to patch them up. I believe the price range for them is also very reasonable. Also remember this is only one pair and one opinion.

I am not sure how they will do it (rebrand Cabela’s as Redhead or do away with one brand altogether or blend both into a complete rebrand), but I think somewhere down the line they will do away with the Cabela’s name and everything will be under BP’s branding.

So, I don’t think they will phase out the actual gear, because I think most people agree cabela’s is better quality than Redhead, but they will change the name.

I have went through two pair of Cabela’s brand and two pair from Academy in the last five years...I fish and hunt in waders...got so mad about it, I am going today to try on some Simms model waders, see if I can do better...I know they are kinda pricy, but I have spent so much on waders that won’t hold together, just tired of death by a thousand cuts.

6 months ago I would have disagreed but it only takes a trip into Cabela's today to see Cabela's is dead and bass pro has new locations.

All of this really makes me wish the federal government would clamp down on the Monopoly that Morris has built.

If I was in charge, I would name all the stores Cabelas. It’s a much better brand name for hunting and fishing vs Bass Pro, that is “restrictive” to fishing and even restricted to bass. It’s marketing 101, see # 3.

I agree. Cabela’s has the stronger brand name in my opinion, but I can’t remember any instances of a company buying another and then taking on the purchased company’s name. I’m sure it’s happened, I just don’t think it happens frequently. A big part of it is...arrogance isn’t the right word, but normally the person who has built up their brand isn’t going to want to give that up when it’s successful.

It's arrogance.

Johnny Morris pretty much owns the fishing industry. Countless boat manufacturers and brands. The 2 largest outdoor retailers in the us.

They do it when it makes business sense. When SBC (Southwestern Bell Corp) bought AT&T, they used AT&T name, because SBC was restrictive to southwest I would think as a reason.

That’s a good example. I agree with DnB agreeing with me above. It’s Morris and what he has always done. It’s the way he does business.

I have some Simms G3 that i wear early in the season. They've been a good pair of waders. But like all waders they started leaking after a few years. Nothing a little aquaseal couldn't handle.

I'm not worried about BP discontinuing cabelas brand. I'd just prefer not to do business with JM if I don't have to.

I'm really starting to consider some magellan super tuffs. i had some magellan $60 stocking foot waders a number of years ago that held up really well.

To me, Cabela’s died the day they changed the Bargain Cave from a place to sell off discontinued items, returns, and outdated stock items, to a profit center that competed with the main store (and had to bid/purchase merchandise from the main store to do so)...in fact, I became so disenfranchised with them, that I quit spending money with them. I went there with my wife Saturday, to use up the extra Cabela’s bucks on my Cabela’s card, so we could cancel the card. Really sad situation what they did, poor management oversight led to selling out to Bass Pro, who effectively, killed the Cabela’s difference.

I ended up at some flyshop over in Dallas today (sad yes, I know). Picked up a pair of the Simms G4 zipper waders. Was very impressed walking around the store, guess I will have to wait till January to see if I am gonna hate myself for not buying another pair of Neoprene waders...the hodgman neoprene waders have undoubtedly been the best I have ever used.

had some la crosse brush tuffs that lasted years. switched to the cabelas waist high waders, and the seam started leaking during the second season. trying macks line of waist highs now which are la crosses, will see how it goes. I don't swear by them, but have had good experiences with the lacrosse brnd
