My family and I just moved to Waco a few months ago, found out there is a public hunting plot less than 2 miles from my house. We live in China Spring near the flat rock boat ramp, anyone hunted here? Any tips?

Hunted there last year and drew again this year. As far as I know, it is all Corps land and you have to attend the drawing that was a few weeks ago in person. I was the last draw out of 100+ slots, last week of the season too. But there were a bunch of folks who didn't draw...

It's a nice area, didn't see any deer last year and it was warm. My hunting partner and I took our oldest sons with us last year and will do the same this year, 10 & 11 yo.

It is shotgun only and they are quite strict on everything being Corps land. Permits are specific to the individual/group members.

If you live in Waco, I would look into hunting Fort Hood, they have hunting opportunities available as well for the public. Lots of hoops but it's there.

If you hunt Ft Hood, either be prepared to lock, tie, chain, glue, whatever ALL your items down....they like to grow legs and get in other areas wit new owner tags.....It's about 2.5 hours, BUT look into Davey NF. LOTS more area, easy to scout, and NO BAITING!! it's tough hunting, but there are some monsters killed every year up there. I'm not able to hunt this year because of an eye surgery and an 8 week stay in Waco for a PTSD treatment facility. pm me, and I'' try to help ya out if your interested...
