Our group was drawn for San Angelo! Does anyone have experience there? Are there any exotics roaming the park? Any intel is appreciated.

I hunted there about 4 years ago. If there are exotics, then there are very few of them. The compartments have ground box blinds to sit in. We parked our truck off the highway next to the entrance gate and walked into our compartment. Some blinds were within 100 yards of the highway and some were a couple hundred yards to get to. The area looks like south Texas brush country with mesquite and cactus. We did see some nice bucks (an 8 pointer and small 10 pointer) but we were on a youth doe hunt. We stayed at the state park in a tent.
Good luck!

I have hunted the lake and park many times. One caution. Rattlesnakes. A lot of rattlesnakes. Walk carefully. Deer are average in body weight. Have never seen any boone and crockett. Deer get a lot bigger further west around Sterling City. In years past they have allowed corn and bait. Some scent lure is helpful. Used to be shotgun only.

Once i stumbled upon a young buck caught in one of their fences. Had a leg caught between two wires. Could have cut its throat. Instead I covered his head with my jacket to calm him down. Then I used my multi tool to spread the wires and get his leg free.

He hauled off. Luckily my jacket fell off a few yards off.
