Question... I put together this awesome load for the 25-06 with a 117 grain Hornady BTSP and 270 Win with 130 grain Hornady SP hunting ammo. I make it with all top components and load it on my progressive press to keep costs down. The ammo comes out great and shoots sub moa in multiple rifles I've tested it in, even at long range. It's also faster than most factory ammo with the same bullet. I price it at ~$24 per box. I have thousands of rounds of both of these loaded and ready to ship. But I have not seen hardly any movement on this ammo. I'm scratching my head why these would not be more popular. I know why the 6.5 Creedmoor and 28 Nosler sells. But why not the good ol' 25-06 and 270 stuff?

To easy to buy off the shelf would be my guess. You don’t see those other two at every box store you go too and those two generally you do.

I think a line chart of usage of 270 is plummeting down. And people that are using it either load their on or have stock of what they like

Bet if you raised the price, it would sell better. I think because you are not as known as Federal, or Winchester, then it is believed your stuff isn't as good. When the opposite is actually the truth.

I have no doubt your powder charges are way more consistent, case to case, than the other two mentioned.

I think I'm in a similar scenario, quite often. Best of the West will charge you $4000 and three days to teach what I do for $400 and one day. They cost more, so they have to be better.

No, not at all. About $9-$14, depending on the size and actual address to Houston.

Just a guess... I think most folks who shoot those calibers, either 1) Don't shoot much (like a box every 1-5+ years), or 2) Load their own.

For those who don't shoot much, price/performance shopping for one box every 1-5+ years probably isn't high on the priority list...

I think your ammo is sold to those who know. By that I mean those who know that mass produced stuff is not as consistent and lawyer approved, meaning weak. I'll provide this example of why I think the masses don't buy 270 from Custom Reloads of Dallas. I'm at my next door neighbors shooting the stuff and say:
I gotta go, I have some brass to prep
him: they say you should never shoot reloaded ammo
me: I don't shoot others reloads, mine is loaded for and shot from my rifle only
him: I will only shoot new, brand name ammo

Average Joe like that ain't buying your ammo cause he can get the crap at Walmart cheaper. This is the same guy that told me he can shoot a 1 inch group at 300 yards with his factory 270. Many folks don't know.

As previously mentioned people who shoot those two calibers are not high volume shooters. I think those are hunters who confirm zero and kill stuff. Rather efficiently I might add. You don’t see those calibers being plinked with or competing. 5-10 rounds a year sounds average for most.

I bought 100 rounds of 140 gr Hornady SST 270 from ya last year. Wasn't as accurate as factory Nosler 130 gr Accubonds in my APR custom 270, but shot right at 1/2" groups in my factory Tikka 270. Your 165 gr Sierra Gameking 308 ammo shoots around an inch in my DPMS LR 308 and around a 1/2" in my Rem 700 5R Milspec 308. I've always had really good luck with the stuff you've loaded for me.

Out of curiosity how much of the .270 have you shot vs the .308?

I have a 25 06 that my wife loves. I load for it though. Could be the reason. It’s an awesome deer round. I also load 75g Vmax it in it and the coyotes don’t like it all.

Generally the shooters that shoot regularly and either reload or shoot reloads are a more informed crowd than the average Joe. Based on that, they will most often be at the range with a rifle that gives them more options to explore than a .25-06 or a .270. Heck, I own a .270 that I like to hunt with. In the offseason, it is not among the rifles I shoot regularly and I shoot on average 2-3 days a week.

Well Chad, since I had you to do a tikka build in 6.5 creedmoor, I just don’t shoot my 270 anymore. I always grab that gun when I shoot.

I own a pair of .270's and they are my go to deer hunting rifles and I shoot 20 rounds a year out of each rifle. They are just not plinking or range type rifle calibers.

This is me, Chad. I've had my eyes on your 25-06 ammo for a while, just can't get through what I have on hand at the moment. I'd probably be on the 2 boxes every 3 year plan...

That's kind of what I am thinking. What's crazy, is I bought a BUNCH or 270 and 25-06 components from my supplier for a pretty good deal. So I figured I'd work up a good load with a good powder and pretty good hunting bullet for both. The ammo is great, but just not any interest. The little things you learn!

What velocity are you getting out of the .270?

Just another thought but I bet if you loaded SST's rather than the SP you'd have better luck. The SP just isn't as sexy.

Funny aside...my buddy has both a 25-06 and 270 and shoots once a year to confirm zero on his rifle, so maybe 10 shots total between the two. I don't think those two calibers are high volume rounds for anyone who shoots much. If you offered in smaller increments (40 rounds) maybe that would help?

The above idea to provide a smaller order minimum is what I was thinking. I understand your ammo is better quality than factory and would like to use it but I do not shoot over a box of ammo a year. I would buy some from you at two boxes at a time. I understand that may not be financially feasible to you and I am providing a response to the question you posed.

Yes! That is the dilemma. When you load up some ammo that is lower cost, and you sell it in small quantities, there's no profit in it. By the time you factor in ammo boxes, labels, shipping logistics, and time to package up the ammo, the profit on the ammo goes away. On the higher cost ammo (like 28 Nosler), the smaller quantities are built into the pricing. But on the lower cost ammo, it's hard to make up difference. I may change the 50 count to 40 count.

Do you think changing it from 50 to 40 count (2 boxes) on the quantity would be more attractive?
