I just got my mount back from last year and want to hang it above the fireplace, which is Austin stone. I think I know how to mount it, but how is that particular stone to drill in? I want to use a hammer drill to insert an anchor/screw (1/4") directly into the stone. My main concern is cracking the rock. Any other suggestions?

I would move it to a mortar joint, rock is to risky for me, if you have to put it in the rock I would forget the hammer drill and get a porcelain tile/ glass bit to drill it. it will be a lot less pounding and vibration on your fireplace

I've drilled a fair bit of it....just used a drill with masonry bits...started with a small bit then worked up to the size I needed. That or a mortar joint....

Thanks. I actually found an 1/8" masonry bit that I had. I drilled about an 1" deep hole and put a slightly larger screw in it, I couldn't pull it out so I don't see why it wont work. The next time I'm at home depot, I going to get a Tapcon as suggested. I think that will work the best.
