I think it's a cool caliber. A 212 ELD-X at 2850 will reduce a critters blood pressure pretty quick.

Just to get something straight I have a question...

If I were to get one as purely a donor action for a future short action caliber, let's say for arguement's sake a 7-08ai, then it wouldn't matter if I got a 30-06/long action right?

You want a 308 bolt face action so you don't need to buy a new bolt.

I thought they had the same bolt face, 308 and 30-06. Is that wrong?

That is correct. On a tikka I’m fairly sure all you’d need to is change the bolt stop to long action to go from 308 to 30-06

Trying to decide whether to do the opposite direction. The 30-06 is the cheapest one in the list on Europtics. So i want to get the 30-06 action and turn it into a short action, either a high speed 22 or 7-08ai.

There's just a bolt stop difference in the long action chambering and the short action chambering. Same action. Find the price of a new bolt stop, and you will have your answer as to which route is less money.

That 7-08 Forest topped with the GAP Bushy 4.5-18 would make a helluva combination for just about anybody. $2400 (retail) worth of rig for less than $1350.

So what exactly does the change in the bolt stop do for this so called "long to short action" conversion? Does it just shorten the stroke required?

dang it. this is getting too complicated. Theoretically the mag would have been a mute point because i'm in love with aics mag systems.
I guess it's worth the extra $40 for the 22-250 version. Haven't had concrete plans to get a rifle built but a tikka action for so cheap seems hard to pass up.

Appears so. Hunters for $418 or Forests for $488 are still available.

If you got the wood and blue Talley LWs look great on them and are an excellent ring at a fair price. If you’re looking for something else start with an EGW base as mentioned above.

I've never ordered from europtics, but they have good reviews. You keep waiting around and they're going to run out. These prices are stupid low.
