Fished the surf Friday morning with a guide limited on reds and 7 trout, biggest trout was 24.5 inch my bride caught and I’ve been hearing a lot about. I hooked into a big blacktip shark I watched hit, he peeled about 100 yards of drag and bit me off.

Took some of a red to Paradise Key and had it blackened for dinner probably the best fish I have ever had either home or out.

Hit the south jetty this morning for some more fishing and struck out, just a few hits on lures but no hookups. Surf was ruff, so we called it quits there but wife wanted to fish some more so picked up some shrimp and fished some pilings, caught 5 mangrove snapper and left them biting when our bait gave out.

Looks like a great trip. What were you using for bait in the surf ?

Open for suggestions on how to prepare if you have anything different.

We baked fishing with the guide, too much sun and were getting hungry otherwise we would have got more bait and kept fishing. Plus a guy with his 10 or so year old son pulled up told them how to rig what to use for bait and where to throw it, hope they got some.

I got a full quart bag of fillets off the ones we caught thinking about pan frying/searing with some kind of sauce.

Pan frying is great. Google the recipe for trout manure.. It's pan frying with a sauce added. Use cilantro instead of parsley. You can drop a couple of hash brown patties in the same pan and have a complete meal.

What kind of soft plastics were you throwing? Like a sassy shad, and just jigging it back to you? I've never caught anything in the surf except those catfish looking fish, little bitty sharks, a ray(?) and a Jack Crevalle. I'd sure like to catch something I could eat, lol.

Maybe they'll still be biting next month when I go down there.

That's a tough one to do at home. It smokes up the kitchen.
