water with that much vegetation in it isn't doing much for them as far as cooling. The top thermal cline of that pond is like jumping into a jacuzzi. I doubt it's very refreshing.
Find some water that's deep with little vegetation and a shade tree need by and you can train all day.

Struggling to swim thru that vegetation can get a dog overheated quick. I try to use water with little grass in it.

Some versatile dog tests specifically require a blind retrieve in water with vegetation. Plus, doesn't water with vegetation better simulate real early-season hunting? I would kill for access to an alligator-free pond like that, and like the OP I would only do one or two retrieves this time of year.

I train in at least 10 different tanks, 5 to 6 days a week. Don't have a clue what the Test Pond will look like, so we keep changing it up. Typically she will swim 2 or 3 sets of doubles each day and a couple marks. On one of the tanks we train on it is 87 yards one way. Some days she will swim over a 1,000 yards. She had no problems powering through that vegetation.
