I'm very new to the draw hunts. This coming season will be the first season I'm applying.
I already applied for 2 of them. I wish I could apply for more, but I'm limited to hunting in the surrounding areas of Katy/Houston. (All draw hunt dates are happening while my son is in school).

I've been looking at the "E-Postcard" hunts and some have told me they're great for meat hunts and youth.

However, I don't understand how the process works.
How do they work?

Applying is done in the same manner you applied for your other draw hunts, except that this year TPWD is requiring the applicant to hold an APH permit as well. I believe new licenses, and the ability to purchase an APH permit, go on sale August 15th. I think that's also when the E-Postcard hunts are also available for application.

Okay, so once I apply for e-postcard, I'm automatically in to hunt on the listed date?

For example:
So say I renew my license and pay for the APH, then apply for the E-postcard hunt for say 'Stringfellow WMA' to hunt on 'December 11th'

I'm automatically entered to hunt for that day?

No. It's still a drawing, just one that's only open to APH holders. However, once you buy your APH, they will send you a map booklet that shows you where you can hunt without a drawing.

Ah okay, thanks.
Yes, I've only done walk-in hunts (which I use the maps they provide).

The terminology and process between "lottery draw hunts" and "e-postcard hunts" had me scratching my head.

Pretty much the same process, except you don't pay the $3 fee for applying on the postcard hunt or the permit fee if selected. It does state you MUST show up on first day of hunt for orientation or you forfeit your spot.

It’s a draw Hunt and you will be notified by email or phone call if you get drawn.

there is no fee to apply..you can go online and see last years booklet..that will give you an idea..just google "tpwd e-postcard hunts" or just go to their website..i spent three hours trying to find dates on the draw huts i could hunt..then i found these hunts..i have applied once on the draw hunt and i drew a doozy..kerr wma..a high fence unit..killed a doe and a 300 lb hog i was driving a car at the time...so i quartered the deer but had no room for the hog..so i donated it to hunters for the hungry..got a tax deductions for 100$..lol..deer are limited to 6 pts or less..its a great hunt..great people running that wma site
