I don’t like paying$160 for my waders damn sure ain’t giving a grand for them. That’s almost a mortgage payment.

If I was a guide hunting every day of the season, maybe. But I don’t see how that’s a viable price for the average guy. For that kinda money you could buy waders, shotgun, lay out, case of shells and a dozen dekes

If I added up what I have spent on waders over the last 5 years due to rips and leaks it would be well over $1000.

That is my thinking. I have purchased a couple of pair of neoprene hybrids from Academy and a couple of cheap breathable that lasted a year or 2. I also have a few friends who have purchased some nicer Cabela's/Drake waders in the $300 range that lasted just over 3 years till they started to have to patch them.

If this is really is a 'lifetime' wader then it could be cheaper in the long run depending on the type of 'service' they offer for them.

Cabela’s used to/has the same warranty, as far as manufacturers defects. Had a pair for 5 years that started leaking around the boot. Took them up there last year and told me to walk over and get a new pair. Printed me an exchange receipt and I was out the door.
As far as wear and tear, what’s a “reasonable cost”, and what about shipping and repair time? I guess if you’re that hard on your waders it may be worth it.

I've never had to send a sitka product back for repair but everyone I've heard of who has sent them back has had their stuff back in less than 2 weeks.

If it is something small I'm willing to bet they fix it for free. If it is something big like a tear from your nipples down to your toes I bet they will throw them away and give you a new pair for substantially less than what you originally paid.

If you buy them, let us know how you like them. My two cents, if I was gonna spend that kinda money on waders I would expect to make a phone call and have a new pair shipped next day air (small repair or leak). I wouldn’t want to be out a $1k pair of waders two weeks out of the season, nor would I expect to be.

If it was a manufacturer defect I'm sure they would do that. If you rip your waders on a pair of barbed wire that is on you and they shouldn't be put out for overnight shipping because of it. Also I'm sure they could have them back to you a lot sooner than 2 weeks if you asked them.

They have sent us badarse goretex patches for some knicks we got in waterproof jackets that I'm sure they will include with their waders for small fixes. Then after the season I'm sure you could send them in to have them professionally repaired. We filmed a hunt with RNT-V this past January and they all had them on. I was impressed by what I saw and although goretex is expensive, the materials are not worth $1000. It is the lifetime warranty you are paying for. Similar to Yeti coolers. I had 5 yeti hoppers because the zipper kept breaking until they finally sent me a tundra 45 to replace it. All for the price of 1 Yeti Hopper. If that had been an RTIC soft cooler I would have thrown 5 coolers away.

Mine should be here by no later than teal season so I will report back once I have had a chance to wear them for a month or so.

I don’t think its necessarily that they’re made of armor, although gortex is durable stuff, it’s the lifetime warranty. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t ever foresee myself paying that kinda money for waders but if the lifetime warranty is as good as promised and they will replace or repair for free/cheap I can understand why some people would go for this. Potentially the last pair of waders you’d ever need unless you wanted a cheap backup pair to hold you over if the Sitka has to be sent out for repair. I’m only on my third pair in 10 yrs, ive only spent $350ish on waders in that time. First pair of cheap academy brand lasted 5 years before leaking in the crotch, second pair was Cabela’s which went another 5 before leaking at the boot and they replaced them last year for free.

Just buy 2 breathable waders and rotate them every hunt.
They will last you a loooong time.
When it gets cold, just layer up, no biggie

i bought some high dollar simms waders for fishing 5-6 years ago. They are a great pair of waders but like all of them started leaking after 3.5-4 years. nothing 30 minutes and some aqua seal can't repair. but i don't think i'll ever buy another pair again. I'll just stick with cheaper waders going forward.

I think it is crazy too but I'm sure Sitka will do just fine with them. Will be interesting to see if they change the warranty 5 years into it, Cabelas did. There is an "ultra-premium" product for just about everything these days. LLBean and others have similar warranties and I still take back my cabelas pairs after they leak at the seams over a couple years and they always say go grab another.

I'm getting some gator waders this fall....I hope they end my search for quality yet affordable waders. Will let y'all know after the season

One thing that really interests me about this is Sitka teamed up with Kokatat which is a paddling apparel company who specialized in dry suits.

I have always wondered why the hunting manufacturers didn't partner up with a legitimate watersports company such as Kokatat/Bare/Oneill to develop better waders for duck hunting.

Good explanation. This is what I was alluding to about duck waders versus actual diving/ocean dry suits. Duck waders seem all disposable compared to the paddle gear and ocean style dry suits which are serviceable and seem to have a much longer lifespan.
