I had a Camp Chef SmokePro Deluxe model for awhile. It held temperature perfectly and made the smoking process super easy. The only downside was that it produced a very mild smoke flavor although some may actually like that feature as well.

Have cooked on the Cabela's made by Traeger (sp) and it did quite well. Had good smoke ring on brisket, Sausage and steaks came out good as well. Kind of a set it and forget it. Temp varied 8 degrees 4 above and 4 below the set temperature.

Bought a Pit Boss Gold from Walmart ($396) just to get in the game. It’s awesome and I get great flavor and smoke rings.

I have a RecTec 680 - it is awesome. I've cooked a dozen briskets, probably 20 chickens and 40 racks of ribs on it. Also about 250 pounds of sausage on it.

I prefer burgers and fajita meat on a regular propane grill.

RecTec has a new model out that allows WiFi control of the smoker temp, and also allows remote monitoring of 2 temperature probes all via an APP on your phone. Once your meat gets to desired temp... you can turn the smoker off. I'm on the waiting list to get the upgraded module for my pit. Hopefully I don't have to wait much longer for the upgrade.

Keep the pellets inside. If the get moist, they don't put out as much smoke. Smoke is also inverse to temp. It makes ALOT of smoke at 225, but not much smoke if set above 275

Got a beat up Traeger at an estate sale and refinished it-- very easy to order and install new electronics. First brisket and ribs made me look like a pro-- 20lb bags of pellets aren't cheap but you can order in bulk as well. Works great for doing a smokey, reverse sear on big steaks too!

Bottom line: Id def recommend one.

Like Duckhunter said... reverse sear with a fat steak on a pellet smoker is awesome !!

I once did Grands Biscuits on the smoker. My wife thought I was nuts, but it turned out great

The versatility of a good pellet grill is what I like.
I love bacon wrapped shrimp/jalapeños and you don't have to worry about flare ups on a pellet grill
We do Papa Murphy pizzas a lot and they are great with the wood flavor.
Ribs, briskets and pulled pork all turn out better on the Traeger. We still do burgers and dogs on the Weber Genesis and as others have stated we do steaks using the reverse sear method.
I have 4 Kingford charcoal storage containers and keep pellets in them so they don't absorb moisture from the humidity. Our standards are, Mesquite, Hickory, Alder and a mixed wild game assortment.

There’s nothing like offset with wood; or all the top competition champions would be using them?

Point taken. But, most of us want to produce the best "cook" we can without standing over a cooker for 24 hours like the "competition champions" do. For that, fill the hopper, set the temp, maybe use a digital meat thermometer and do other things during the cook which may or may not include a few adult beverages.

My last smoker was an 11 ft long offset that I welded myself. It had a 2ft x 2ft square firebrick insulated firebox.

It was awesome, but I don't miss it and I agree 100% with Pigsicles. I make 'almost as good' food now with minimal effort.
