How long does that cottonseed last usually in that kind of set up? Does it get eatin up like protein does?

It really depends, my deer density is pretty high right now. Too high in fact. That pen holds 150 lbs of cottonseed, it will last a week on average. I inventoried the deer this morning and have 9 bucks and 7 does coming to that feeder on average every day. I also have a protein feeder right behind it with Antlermax and a corn feeder right behind that. I feed all three. Stop cottonseed in September. Resume in late January.

You can make your cottonseed feeder larger obviously and you don't have to fill it as much but since that one is 40 yards from my house I keep it that size. The other ones on the ranch are larger.

I know other places that have attempted cottonseed and the deer won't touch it... ours love it. I'm not sure on the science behind that.

The great thing about it is if you can get them on it you can make feeding stations super cheap, easy to transport, easy to move. Don;t have to worry about moisture, wasps, or batteries. I'd heard that pigs will die from eating it, but I have pigs as pets around the house and if I don't keep them in their pen they'll eat the hell out of it and they are doing just fine.

Hopefully that answered your question.
