Well, where were you? What did you use to take him? We need to hear the whole story, not just teasers like this!!! :-)

So is this an old pic? Nuisance gator? Is your friend a licensed nuisance trapper with the state of LA? Was it reported and then taken appropriately? LA Game Wardens don't take lightly the shooting of gators during breeding/nesting season. LA season doesn't start til September. I would hate to see this post be the first lead in an arrest.

The gator as I stated above was legally taken during our September season, but nice try!

I had no idea you could call gators. That interesting. Do you call from the boat? Of have speaker on the shore? How?

If an animal uses sound to communicate with its own kind, then you can likely call it. If the animal uses hearing to locate prey, you can call it. Alligators happen to do both. Alligators actually start using sound to communicate when they are still in the egg.

Yes, sounds are important to predators, we usually imitate a small animal in distress, interesting to see a big gator take his time stalking the sound!

Mr cavarretta, I hope my question wasnít taken the wrong way . What time of year, and where you kill them isnít my business. My only experience with them is limited to protecting livestock and/or people. Sport hunting , even more limited experience. So, Iíd be the first to admit that I donít know everything, Iíd even call myself ignorant about calling gators . So from the perspective of real world experience, and obvious success, would you mind explaining the process? Not asking for trade secrets ect. Just general process yíall go through ? Now that my interest is peaked , Iíd rather hear it from someone like yourself. Otherwise Iíll just have to ask google, and my experience with internet experts, is they often just like to make people think theyíre experts on subject matter, but lack actual experience, much less success. So itís kind of a big giant waste of time . Thanks in advance

Not at all, for a reptile that has been around and unchanged since the last dinosaur age is remarkable, add environmental and habitat change/loss and you get some idea why I consider the alligator one of our top predators in north America.
He's really no different than a wolf, coyote, or bobcat except he lives in water, and the nastiest darkest stuff you can imagine!
The American alligator is hands down my favorite.
