Same deer last year June 14-15, 2017

And how they finished up last year

The one in the back on the first “finished” pic above was a hoss too

Hoping to take one or more of these this year as they are putting on the age.

I hope to see one similar to that wide one.

Quick update on these two LF studs...they been a little shy lately coming to the feeders but today they showed in daylight and got a pic of one of them showing his current hardware. It appears he is further along than last year this time. Does that mean he will be bigger than last year for sure or Just that they started growing a little earlier and will finish earlier? I guess time will tell.

The other guy was there but kept his head out of the center of frame enough to not see any hardware on him. I am hopeful they will return to being regular customers at my McDonald’s.

That buck from this year actually looks more like the 8pt in last years pics to me at this stage of growth. Most of bucks here are at G'2 or little past with one past his G3's and a couple of youngsters just about at browtines or splitting them off.

STX, I agree, I believe the one in the recent pics is the taller narrower buck, and not either of the wider bucks in the older pics.
He appears to be quite a bit ahead from last year this same time (fourth pic in the first post) so I was wondering if that means he will finish bigger than last year or if he just will finish earlier and be about the same? I figured him around 4.5-5.5 yo last year but was my first year on the property so I could be off. I did see him once in person last season, much bigger body compared to most of the bucks I saw, and seeing him in person really made me think he was right in that solid middle aged category, but not terribly old. He was working a scrape line during the rut and all the smaller bucks that were there deferred to him.

One of my neighbors to the south ha some deer with split tine genetics but I have yet to see anything like that on my place. Not a fan of crazy junk, but splits and some trash at the bases are both pretty dang cool looking to me.

Ok, so if ever there was a picture that shows the difference between a good deer and a youngster...this is it:

Then tonight got some decent pics of another guy I believe we saw last year. My guess is this is the same buck in the last picture of the first post by himself, also seen in the background of the daytime pic (bigger right brow is telling):

Still has a little bit left to grow, but he is numero uno on my son’s hit list. although the right side is still a little behind the left, seems the tines on the right have a little more bulbous appearance to them yet, so it might catch up.

Couple shots of him from recent and then one from mid-growth phase

I liked this progression pic because it is almost the same exact pose as the first on this post.
