Forget about the beer making to save money. It is fun but in the end it is just mediocre beer and it cost a hell of a lot more that at the store even if your time isn't worth much.

If you have enough land you can live cheaply/comfortably

I have cattle
Butcher 2 a year , sell the rest at $1.50/lb live weight ( chunk of cash)

100 quails = eggs , meat, more quails

50 chickens = eggs, meat , more chickens , fertilizer for garden

3 ponds full of fish

Fruit trees , grapes , raspberries - summer sweets

Garden- seasonal veggies

Greenhouse - year round veggies

2 water wells

Maybe $2000/year for electricity
$1800 internet
Diesel for tractor , skid steer
$1000-$2000 for condiments , hygiene etc...

So yes, you can live very cheaply and comfortable
