Still a month or two too early to put much faith in local numbers. Hearing good things, but I don't get excited until seeing good numbers Aug 1 and after.

Most of the resident birds here arenít goin anywhere. We arenít dependent on migrating mourners, but I fully understand what you are saying.

If you AREN'T dependent on migratory birds after noon on opening day, I'd love to know the zip code you hunt. I am primarily a dove hunter, before anything else, spend many a day dove hunting each year, and everywhere I've been are depending on migratory birds after the first 5 hours.

We will be killing local mourning the first few weeks. Can kill local ring necks all season long.

about aug 10 white-wings explode here and are usually good till first front...Harvey spoiled that last yr...
migrant Mdoves don't show till oct
fronts play a lot, thoÖ
a mid-sept front will push out our local birds...
winter season has usually been poor this far north, but last 2-3yrs have been good...
this yr at the cen/so border we will have an old full sept/oct like seasons 40 yrs ago...
60 days of prime early fall hunting...
tea-weed is usually ready about oct10ish...
and temps are better...
really we could have a 5mo season and not affect #'s much...
after Labor day the hunter #'s fall off a lot...

We shoot locals into late September. You can clearly tell the difference in a local and a migrator. I do think our fields are so good we pull other 'locals" off areas around us but the first good fronts don't push true northern birds into our area until late September

Our sunflowers are looking good to the west and south of us. As long as we have a good sunflower crop to mow, we should be in good shape.
