The yard feederhas gone through several ‘upgrades’ to keep squirrels and coons from the corn spinner. I finally have beaten them with a small mesh of steel. But they came back with a destructive attack on my solar panel. Tore it to pieces...little pieces. So i got a much stronger solar panel, but they destroyed the exposed wiring. So i put the wiring in metal conduit, and for the last couple of years, i’ve had no problems. But last night the coons tore the conduit away from the controller box. A ‘sissy’ coon could not do that. Had to be a big male. The connection was metal to metal. Wellll, i have reattached the conduit, and it’s way tougher than before. So...game on.

If the timer box is big enough mount the solar panel directly to it. That way you can hide the wires behind the panel when they go into the box. No conduit needed. Just have to mount the panel to it really well. Catch or trap the coons and solve the problem. The rest of the fix is just a band aid in the long run. Coons have time and you have a buffet. I have plenty of experience in dealing with coon problems on feeders.

Good suggestions in the posts above and will throw in the eliminator plate spinner. Makes it harder for them to get to the corn

Get rid of the coon. That is the only way to solve the problem.

Try the traps, caught and dead is the solution.

Well, I was plinking them with the 22 for a long while, but got tired of dragging off the bodies. Hmmmmm, ya know, if my flightless buzzard still lives, he could use the food.

Raccoons are smart and unbelievably stupid at times, I love trapping them when I’ve got the chance.

we're going to do some coon control tonight, they got our feeders a couple of weeks ago. We have about 3 to 4 at all 3 of our feeders, messing with solar panels and hanging from the wires and even popping one of the throwers off and dumped 60 pounds of corn on the ground.

Raccoons are smart and unbelievably stupid at times, I love trapping them when I’ve got the chance. They just don't learn. If you leave two DP traps too close together they will catch a foot in each, I always wanted to try three and see if they are as handy with their rear feet. It is normal practice for a coon to lose a foot in a DP trap, then the next night catch him with his other front foot. During the acorn drop I have seen a feeder that had an inch of corn under it, and them silly coons will still go for the few morsels of corn in the DP trap. Curious creatures.

I like the shark teeth, I'll give em a try. We're not out there enough for the traps. Popped a couple of coons last time, started to pop a possom but, thought better of it and gave him a pass.

Ha, Ha bought the Eliminator plate, took off my 1 X 2" welded wire full barrel cage. Within two weeks one got tthere and apparently got hold of one side of the links, right before it came on. when I found it the cast aluminum that holds the plate was broke. I can visualize him using it a a may pole, went back to the full barrel cage.

I, for one, am very glad those times are over.

When I bought my feeders with the spinner plates the salesman talked me out of the more expensive eliminator plates and I was already planning on purchasing them before I got there. He said, "THERE ARENT ANY COONS OUT HERE IN WEST TEXAS". Uh.....I was pretty sure there were but.......ok. Fast forward 5 years. Added 2 eliminator plates on to 2 of the 4 feeders I have. Sure, it slowed them down for a "SHORT" while, but that's it. They have that thing figured out so well it might as well just be a gravity fed feeder. DUKES TRAPS....and LEAD to the HEAD is all that works. Anything else and it's just a matter of time, I promise.

Eliminator spinners. We have never had issues after moving to these years and years ago.

I have had good luck with the "DUKE" type coon type coon traps. I fixed my protein feeder as a gravity type, fenced in, and the coons would rake 200 lbs of the expensive feed on the ground, in one night. I have caught and killed 18 coons, since march. Did get a skunk this weekend. My feeders are now holding feed, until the deer empty. Coons are a menace.

Solar fence charger is ONLY solution that has consistently worked for me.
It's sooo enjoyable to be sitting in the stand at night and watch a coon bail off the feeder and start walking in circles under it.
This year has been pretty challenging due to lots of coons. Every time I get out to go hunting at night, if the pigs don't show, I know there are a few coons at the feeders to make sure the NV is still zeroed.
Also, I have shot and trapped 8 in my front yard after they found the bird feeders. At first, I just slid open the patio door and shot them. Then they got smart and I had to go out other door to snipe them. Then they got smarter and I broke out the Dukes and got more. One was so greedy that he had BOTH front feet in the cuff trap!

2 of the ones, that I have caught, had both front feet in the trap.
