Secretary Zinke Proposes Expansion of Hunting and Fishing Opportunities at 30 of Americas National Wildlife Refuges

Such a relief not to have Anti Hunting and shooting sports in office any more

Zinke said he would focus on Hunting and Fishing access. So far he has held true to his word.

Hopefully we dont screw this up for ourselves. Nothing in Texas(I think vast majority of our WMA and WMR already allow it) but still a big deal to add 1/4 million acres to public hunting and fishing realm.

Somebody should of asked him if his company was going to do a Grizzly tag buy back program like they did on the buffalo...

Vast majority of our large ones are already open here, Aransas, Hagerman, Laguna etc, and I think all the WMAs

Outside the list

The proposal also outlines expanded hunting and fishing opportunities at 136 national wildlife refuges. If finalized, this would bring the number of units of the National Wildlife Refuge System where the public may hunt to 377, and the number where fishing would be permitted to 312.

I vaguely know anything about BHA. What's the deal with them? Why are they bad guys? Just curious.

Little of both.

What they are-
From a public lands perspective they are all in on protecting them and access. No middle ground on selling, adjusting boundaries, etc.

What they are not-

Not for Multi use- no mineral extraction, limited to no timber
Not for strong private property rights.
Hunting and Fishing are a back seat to saving or preserving Public land.
They tend to take lots of Credit for when Zinke does something they like, but then you find the never mentioned or championed it before hand.
They tend to take a Wilderness or National monument view of all public land.

Over all not a bad group, but they dont fit my my view of public land usage AND hunting. I dont agree with thier Corp partnerships
