After Hornady stopped making their Amax, I changed back to Nosler to find a good load. 140 Nosler accubonds with Varget. Tried 39 to 42 grains at .3 interval. Best was 40 grains. Found best load and played with COAL. OGIVE was 2.367 to touch. Loaded 2.397 to 2.297 in .20 intervals. Best was 2.397. Loaded next rounds 2.397, 39.8 to 40.6 in .2 grains intervals. Best 39.8 grains. One more time to the range. Loaded 39.8 grains, OGIVE 2.397 to 2.356 in .010 intervals. Again 2.397 best OGIVE. Here is my question, best loads were jammed .030 into the throat riflings. Verified with black sharpie and yes they are being jammed pretty good. This is a 7mm08, winchester brass, Remmington primers, Varget powder. I am OCD and measure to the last kernel with tweezers to verify powder. Barrel has around 1200 rounds , Criterion. Could the throat be getting burned out to the point that I only getting good results with jamming bullet? Last range results. 100 yards

With all that load testing, probably so. I really don’t know the answer, other than your barrel may not like any jump to the lands. Judging by those groups, your barrel isn’t shot out.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

You're barrel likes those bullets jammed. No reason to try and figure out why...the why is because the barrel and paper are telling you so. The next barrel might like jump...I personally wouldn't like a hunting gun jammed that much and would look elsewhere for something but it can be managed by opening the bolt and dropping a rod down the barrel to break the bullet free of the rifling. Otherwise you could end up with an action full of powder...don't ask me how I know Looks like she's shooting pretty good, congrats!

This is a paper round not a hunting round or I would be concerned too. The 162 AMAX I was using liked a .020 jump and shot really well. They just happened to stop making them. I could not ever get the same results with the ELDX or the ELDM, so I went back to Nosler.
