Well, I was actually having seed fall into some water puddles early in April when I planted foodplots at two different leases. Since then no rain. My plots came up about three inches and are burning up and dying. Oh well, there is still the fall to work with. Something can maybe salvaged if we get some rain but nothing but 90+ degree weather in the forecast this week.

I feel your pain. Mine were dry planted on April 29 or 30th ahead of a 7 day rain forecast. I got no rain at all on them till 2 weeks ago on a Monday, when I got 1.5". They were all up by Friday that same week of the rain. The lack of rain and dry vegetation made the deer jump on them about 3 days ago. As of this morning they had stripped about 90% of the 10 acres. Lack of a follow up rain and really dry year with temps in the upper 90's the past 10 days have really not helped.

Going to be a long hot, dry summer I'm afraid.

I spoke with our county agent about 10 days ago and he told me the 90 day forecast was for above average rainfall. I have not found any forecast that even closely resembles that one he had access to. I hope he is correct but it does not look like it right now.

the few times I have tried late spring or summer plots, its been a waste of time and money. The unpredictable rains have never panned out for my timing.
