Howdy.

Got a year-round lease in Cass County. I'm posting to maybe get some advice, maybe offer help if I have any to give. Maybe learn the gang-hand-signal for Cass County Hunters? laugh

I'm in Wood Co. Do you plan on camping at your lease? Camper, tent?

I'm in Cass, about 7 miles north of Hughes Springs. Doing a food plot for the first time this year. We will see how that turns out.

Howdy! Yeah, we found a beat up old camper, too small to anything in but two wanna-be deer slayers. Pretty primitive, but it is beautiful country. We're south of Atlanta.

Cheers!

Howdy! We're south of Atlanta. Ate in Linden last weekend at the Linden Public House. Not bad.

Food plot? In East Texas? Ha! Yeah, if we can get a tractor down there we are going to try an grow some Buck Forage Oats since we are Dr. Deer fan-boys.

Cheers!

I'm in Cass near Avinger. We have a couple hundred acre tree farm that we've had since the early 80's. If you get a chance there is a nice steak house in Avinger Called 5D cattle Co. you need to check out.

Dinner at 5D would be a great time to meet some local hunters and enjoy a good dinner.

Use to hunt Cass County east of Atlanta back in 1987-1988 beautiful country. There was not a lot of deer, but some big ones and a lot of poachers back then.

Not seeing a lot of deer right now, but did see a new born fawn with its mother last weekend on trail camera. It was still wet. That's the only one we have seen so far. Unfortunately, I delete my best photo and only have very poor ones now. You will have to look under the doe to see the fawn standing on the other side.

I have hunted my entire life in West Texas and know very little.....I know nothing...about hunting in East Texas piney woods. I did cut a shooting lane through the trees. I studied the sun a lot before having it cut. It runs east and west. I know that is not what you want at all as you will be looking into the sun a lot, but I wanted to get the most sun on the lane as I could because I am going to plant oats & peas there.

I’m north of linden in the iron ore hills near the sidco mine. Deer population seems fairly low up in the hills, but have seen some big ones around. Mainly duck hunt that property so other than a couple years I haven’t done any food plots, just to much rock. I have had luck with pear and persimmon trees.

You may be right, but I'm going to try anyway. Got a guy who set up a big trap, by that I mean 4 or 5 adults at a time and giving another two guys permission to hunt them all summer. Hopefully, by the fall, those that are still left will be a little educated that if they walk into those fields they are going to be shot at.
Will see how it works out.

My wife and I went to the cabin Friday to fish a bit for crappie, and to check the wild plum patch for ripe fruit. I went pretty early before it got to hot and walked up on 12 pigs eating the fruit that had fallen. There were 2 large ones and 10 very small pigs wondering thru the patch. So, I decided to "run" them off by firing my .45 at them and not hitting any. I need to do a little hand gun practice before next plum picking.
