Not sure how this flew under the radar. But this really blows big holes in the hypothesis that cwd started in Colorado. Unless one believes that deer/elk swam from the US to Norway.

So it seems that “if you test for it you’ll find it” has more merit than “it was created in a pen in Colorado and will destroy wild deer populations just before it kills all human life on the planet”. loser8

Chronic wasting disease (CWD) was diagnosed in March 2016 in a wild reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) from the Nordfjella mountain area in Norway. This was the first documented case of CWD in Europe. In May and June 2016 CWD was diagnosed in two mooses (Alces alces) in Selbu in South Trøndelag county, approximately 300 km north from the first case.

Infected wild reindeer and wild moose 300 kilometers away from each other in a country separated from source populations by an entire ocean!

Man! That’s a seriously contagious pathogen... loser8

I think it has been around much longer than the sky is falling crier crowd wishes us to believe. No $ in that line of thought for research though.

They have blamed it on imported(from the US) deer scent attractants.... who know that raindeer are atttracted to whitetail pee

It was first documented in the US in Colorado first, as they were studying scrapies. I've never heard it originated here.
I have always believed it has been here just was brought to light with testing.
Beth Williams had a lot to say about that. Sure wish she was around to clear some things up. RIP Beth.

I agree with you.

All the doomsday’ers say it crossed species in Fort Collins in the research facility that housed a lot of scarpied sheep... but yet the same doomsday’‘ers don’t even recognize that By 1967 the US had two decades worth of peak sheep levels with peak being 56million head. How can you subscribe to it beng so contagious yet it only jumping species in a pen? by 1945 there was more domestic sheep in the US then elk and deer. O well

Regardless where it can from no body has yet to see a catastrophic lose or even herd reduction from it, even though we are historical peak concentrations of deer and elk.

Nature has a way of balancing everything out!
It's when man gets involved when everything goes down the toilet. flush

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Virtually all of the "scientists" who benefit from it being a man caused morph of a disease previously limited to sheep say it was the fault of the researcher in Colorado.

Because if it's NEW and a man caused morph, it can be heralded as a threat to all deer and human life, and garner billions (over decades) for the "scientists" who study it to help "protect us from the coming apocalypse" they are so carefully inventing.

If it proves to be a pre-existing disease that affects only certain cervid species, is so slow acting and specific that it never significantly impacts deer populations, and proves not to be able to jump to bovines much less humans.... well, there's no money in that.

Two different species 300 km isolated from each other. In the article below the Norweigians say they believe the moose cases were "naturally occurring"... lol Blamed the reindeer on urine (I don't believe they use scents to hunt there) but the moose are natural...
