I am going to have a 4x6 blind framed out of 1x1 square steel tubing. I am interested in "skinning" it with something permanent - Sheet Metal. Has anyone out there ever done such a thing? What guage sheet metal did you use? Any input and ideas appreciated!

Mueller metal will sell you sheet metal on a roll any color you want. Same as roofing material just not bent yet.

Used gray R-Panel and 2-inch tubing to build several. Worked fine and lasted better than wood for obvious reasons. Designed them to bolt together for easy setup, transport and removal. If you have the money and tools it's a good idea.

And insulate the insides or it will be either real hot or very cold, plus noise amplification.

You probably need to use metal that is corrugated. Plain sheet metal will pop and make noise when temps change.

OSB on the inside helps with noise and insulation.

In a Monarch blind, I thought someone shot me a few times that popping metal is so loud. Wait until you get hit with a hail storm of quarter sized hail. You will be checking for bullet holes. Ours was just a metal roof on a ground blind, I had left the tower blind because of the storm blowing in. It started as a good shower, the sound was putting me to sleep, then all hell broke loose.

I built a 4x6 with wood frame and OSB. Then wrapped it with 26 gauge R panel. Going on year 4 now.

Same here, Cast. Mueller concealed fastener. Looks awesome but also pops when temps change. Sounds like a .22 going off outside.

Not on a slab. I had hell getting it out of the shop and moved to where it is now. Erathkid when it gets cold I hunt out of the truck with the heater going or most likely stay in the house.

My experience is stuff like that doesn't bother the deer at all. I have birds hawks owls buzards land scuffle etc. ontop of our blinds all the time and pay them no mind at all. Had a sheet of tin peeling off the roof that would flab and bang in the wind loud enough to make me jump in the blind and it never bothered the deer at all. They get used the noise.

I had to stay away from steel due to the heat they generate. Wound up skinning my last blind with plastic siding that you put on a house. Light, easier to move around by myself and a lot cooler.

I've had great luck with corrugated tin. Light and relatively low cost. I've got a few that are ten years old now.

I've got 4 that are made out of treated 1/2" exterior plywood going on 9 years old. 2x2 treated lumber for frame and screwed together with deckmate screws. Plywood on roof covered with corrugated sheet iron helps control heat transfer during summer. Easy to attach insulation and carpet to inside too!
Put a good sealed roof on whatever you build and it will last.
