Amazing animal. How old do you think he is? He is 4 years old. Thanks. How old would you say that they peak at? I'm debating about trying to raise just stockers. No breeding, just a few males, and wondering how long to keep them to get the best return when selling them?

No breeding, just a few males, and wondering how long to keep them to get the best return when selling them? I really don't know. I usually try to sell them at about 4 years old. They live a long time. Their horn growth goes down every year. The first year they seem to grow from 8 to 12 inches. Then the next year knock an inch or so off of that and so on. The one in the picture I am guessing at around 33 inches. This year he may only put on 3 or 4 inches. Plus the longer you keep them the more chance you have of something going wrong. Sickness, fighting and getting hurt or getting a horn broke. I think you can make some money in stockers. Just be careful not to get ones that are too wild or do not have the right looking horns. Normally by the time they are yearlings you can tell how their horns are going to turn out.And again if you buy some make sure they are not too wild or you may never see them again.
