Anyone have someone reputable in the DFW area that does this? Or a recommendation of where to mail it off to? I have a LH SA Rem 700 bolt that needs to be jeweled-
Thanks!

What is bolt jeweling? Adding bling to your bolt?

What is bolt jeweling? Adding bling to your bolt? That's exactly what it is. I've considered it on my 10/22, just never makes it up the priority list.

What is bolt jeweling? Adding bling to your bolt? You've seen jeweled bolts. Shiny patterns ground into the bolt, along its' length. Used to be common on Rem 700 CDL, and Super Grade Win 70's, I believe.

Thanks! I've always wondered what the process is for jeweling a bolt. I guess I should pay my Google bill and see if I can find a video.
Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

Kampfeld Custom can do it. I had him flute my bolt and install a larger knob. Very fast turnaround, I believe I got my bolt back in 4 days.

Awesome, gonna shoot him an email!
The old Remington 700VS had jeweled bolts and I'm building a replica (left handed) so it's gonna happen!

Rifle bolts were "jeweled" to provide a medium to hold a layer of lubrication using the "Gun Oil" of the day and make the bolt's operation slicker than greased snot... a descriptive term I learned from my NROTC Firearms Instructor at Admiral Farragut Academy at St Petersburg Florida in 10th grade in 1959..along with other usable command terms like "find me the KEYS to the oarlocks"...and God help you if you operated the 'O3 A3 Springfield's you lived with on your bunk, bolt with your finger tips, instead of the pocket at the edge of your palm just below the thumb joint...'cause that's the only place as his swagger stick would "instruct" you where the Springfield's smooth round bolt knob was supposed to go when you obeyed the command to show him your palm to see if you'd been using it for any unauthorized other nite time activity's... I heard jeweling a bolt will shrink your group size in half.

A nice wood stock, deep blueing, and a jewled bolt make a beautiful rifle.

I could see getting your bolt jeweled if building an exact replica or were desperately trying to impress the ladies due to less than optimum physical dimensions. Else there are other things I’d rather spend my money on.
Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

Else there are other things I’d rather spend my money on. It's a replica but south paw style-- re-creating a LH Rem 700VS but with a few modern tweaks that won't be overly apparent.

I've seen it done with a pencil chucked up in a drill and abrasive paste on the eraser, I was laughing but it actually turned out nice.

It was a common ‘upgrade’ on many rifles usually found on the higher end factory models. Pre-64 Winchester 70s had jeweled bolts in the Super Grades, Remington 700 BDLs had them while the ADLs did not, etc.
Many custom rifles from the 40s through the 80s had them. My basic understanding is the process is a fairly simple one of polishing the bolt on a lathe, and repeating the process to create the crosshatched “jeweled” look.
Not seen nearly as much these days where synthetics are largely the order of the day.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

I didn't know jeweling was such an oddity. I have two Rem 700's with jeweled bolts and have had a couple of shotguns with jeweled bolts, as well.

It’s not an oddity at all to those of us of a certain age. I actually do not prefer it for hunting because in bright sunlight I imagine it could throw off a “glint” if the sun angle was right. Especially in open alpine country.
