Hello, https://www.smith-wesson.com/firearms/mp-15-sport-iiI own this AR and would like to buy a scope for hog hunting of just genreal target practice at 25 to 200 yards usin .223 ammo. My budget is up $300. This the scope I am ever buying. I was going to buy from Academy and ask them to mount and bore it. Thank you.

My advice is to get a straight up red dot or a 1-4 or 1-6 or 1-8.

Friend of mine just picked up a Primary Arms 1-6 FFP that he seems to be happy with - I think it was the raptor but i'm not sure. Thats close to your budget.

A 1-4 or 1-6 power is about ideal for an AR, IMO. I can run it on 4x out a long way.

I put a Bushnell AR223 3-9x40 on my Ruger 10/22. It's actually a really decent scope for the money. Built/designed for AR-15 usage, and I think it would do well on there. I'm not as big of a fan of the 1-4 or 1-6 optics as some. But if those are your thing, then there are lots of good options at low prices. SWFA is running a sale on a Vortex Strike Eagle kit that seems like a good option.

Many of the 1-4X solutions out now are authentically true 1X and with an illuminated reticle can be well utilized on 1X like a traditional red dot sight and both eyes open operation.

Let's not forget that the man wants to use rhe scope on a hunting rifle later on. A 4x would work, but I'd choose a 3-9x for versatility.

That wasn't listed here, and a bolt rifle scope isn't always a good fit for an AR scope, and vice versa.

In another thread he says he wants to scope his AR to practice some, then move tje scope to a hunting rifle, yet to be chosen and purchased. That's the way I understood, at least.

Really wish I had the cash right now for it. Would be perfect to top my 16" 308AR.

That SWFA HD 1-6 does seem like a nearly perfect scope for an AR if you're looking for a 1X on the bottom end. The reticle design is perfect, and HD glass is a bonus.

You said in your other thread you were buying a bolt action rifle because were not going to hunt with your AR. Have you changed your mind?
