It's gonna melt man. Run a link of 90 through a 60 or Stoner the 91st in the burnin hot chamber wont make it. Case failer in poly is gonna cripple folks with melt downs and impurities causing chamber explosions. Go buy a plastic truck while your at it. Ive seen brass case failer and it aint cool. Almost blinded a friend. Pin hole in the stamp by the primer and that was brass. Plastic haha will explode. Test or no test, I reject.

There are plastics and polymers that are very heat resistant.

I don't think you understand. The polymer case does not transfer heat to the chamber like a brass case. Therefore, the chance for a cook off is greatly reduced. Cook off's are from the chamber getting so hot, that the next chambered round ignites because of the excess heat in the chamber. They tested these in all sorts of weapon platforms, including fully auto, and it passed with flying colors. And it did better than brass cased ammo. No cook offs.

The polymer is an engineered product and has a very high heat tolerance before it melts. This product has been engineered specifically for firearms use. Yes, it really is amazing!

I just read the article in the latest Guns and Ammo. Seems more like a deign for the Military, not us.

I have personally seen videos from this company in their ammo testing. It's amazing. I saw a test with an FN machine gun that fired a 308 for 350 rounds for about 25-30 seconds. The last round was left in the chamber for 5 minutes to see if it would "cook off" The round was fine, but the bullet itself melted in half at the case mouth. The bullet! Not the case. The bullet looked like it had been broken off in half at the case mouth. But no cook off.

Get on the phone and call Dillon, the folks that make the mini gun. The mini gun is the weapon that shoots thousands of rounds a minute, and ask them which ammo they will now run in their weapon. After you speak to them, please post up what they say. Then, call several other branches of the military and ask what ammo they are specifying for their weapon systems now. They have orders for MILLIONS of rounds of ammo, right now! Wait til the next 5-10 years, and this will be a common occurrence to see.

What effect will this have on the brass stuff we use say in 5-10 years? 556 is so cheap it's not worth reloading but for the stuff which requires precision, this plastic stuff won't work the same. I'm betting brass prices go way up.

Military not ordering brass, means the demand is lower for brass makers.

JG, it's speculation on my part. I look at it like this, we can get 556 cheap because over runs for government contracts are frequently sold on the open market. Thousands of rounds are available. When the supply is high and the demand is fair, prices are low/er. Remember a few years ago when ammo was in high demand and production/supply seemed to remain the same? Guys were selling 500 rounds of 22LR for $80-100. My thoughts, and again, speculation, if the supply goes down the price goes up. Yes I understand that there are no contracts for millions of 6.5CM, 7-08, 7MAG and the other non-military cartridges but if overall production takes a dive because of plastic cases, I think the street price of brass will be affected. Hopefully I'm dead wrong.

Economics is a tricky topic.

Member in 2007, .223 and .308 was getting high, and hard to come by? They ramped up production. Then, after Sandy Hook there was plenty of both, but .243, 7mm-08, and even .30-30 was difficult to get, as they were focusing on the military cartridges.

My advice, is to follow my plan. Every month be buying some kind of loading components, and/or .22 lr ammo. Never stop slowly adding to your supply. Then when the market has trouble, you're not worried about it.
