First Focal Plane 1-4X or 1-6X or 1-8X
I use an SS (Super Sniper) 1-6X on my 16" carbine. Clean sight picture at 5 feet, and I shot it out to 500 yards a few weeks ago. At 1X both eyes open works very well, and very fast. Just be sure to get your sight height correct (not difficult with all the great mounts made now days) fast, comfortable sight picture and it will work well.

Do you have a budget?
You could also do an aimpoint t2 or h2 and add a magnifier

The Accupower doesn't have a truly "daytime bright" reticle
Probably my favorite, highend, reasonably priced AR optic is the 1-5 Steiner Tactical, 200 yard zero, BDC reticle for shots out 600, great glass, daytime bright center dot reticle that will also get down super dim for low light. Had the military version as well, I really couldn't detect difference in glass and the tactical is a lot less money and has capped turrets which I prefer for an AR optic like this.
The ACTAR 1-8 is awesome but a lot more money. The 1-8 NSX is very nice, daytime bright and a lot less $ than the ACTAR, not quite as good of glass but still, very nice, it is also compact and light.

I've looked through the red and green- def no issue with being 'day time' bright. Right now I'm waiting to see what will be allowed for top end magnification for my duty rifle.
If I can't go to 8x then I'm going to look hard at the Sig Tango 4 or 6 or a Leupold VX5 1-5.
