Ruger in my opinion has one of the best factory rifles in the M77

But....there triggers suck and the are known for not being accurate.
Mine was less than stellar until a gunsmith worked it over now it’s a great shooter

Btw mine has thst reddish purple robutussin colored receiver

I have a newer Hawkeye but I’m not sure how good it shoots as it’s only been to the range once.

It likes 55 grain v-maxes....hates 55 grain fusion

I've only owned one 270 and I never shot it, bought it as a gift for someone else, matter of fact I bought it off the forum. Went from 06 to 7-mag to 300 Weatherby, guess I just bypassed the 270.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

My favorite rifle also, you get a whole lotta gun for a minimum price. I can make a M-77 trigger shootable, not match grade but shootable. As far as accuracy that's another one that improves with a minimal amount of work, just bed it and float it. I've never seen a M-77 I couldn't shrink the group on. Rugged and reliable. Never shoot a stock M-77 that shot outside 2 inches at 100, with the above mods the rifle is capable of 1 inch or less if the shooter is. Meat and potato's rifle.

Haven't shot one of the new Americans yet but it looks like both of those problems have been addressed and they put the safety back where GOD meant for it to be. Might be an American 22-250 in my future at some point but they'll be hard pressed to get me to lay down my M-77 Tang safety's. I've went through allot of rifles in the last 50 years but I still have all of my old M-77's.

I’m not a fan of the Americans.

Cheap rifle that shoots well and they sell the hell outta them but not my favorites

I love the American Rifle in .22-.250 and choose to shoot it over my Hawkeye though it is not nearly as pretty. I love the weight, balance and trigger is improved over stock M-77 triggers. I am a walking hunter that hunts in a lot of brushy and rugged terrain. You can use and abuse this rifle and it keeps on shooting. I am especially a fan of the American in the Predator series, a little heavier barrel that holds better on my Swagger Bipods or shooting sticks.
Adios,
Gary

So if you are using a .270 on elk are you staying with 130 grain or bumping up to the 150 grain?

You must be talking about the 280 Remington.

my browning xbolt 270 works every time, is accurate as all get out, and kills everything I aim for. I get great hunting ammo anywhere that sells ammo, and price is very reasonable.

Anyone who thinks the 270 is antiquated is buying the marketing hype.

Haha.

You can keep your 7mm express

It’s a fine round but Remington just doesent do as good a job marketing their cartridges as others.
